Sargon: If any of you are looking for some games to play with kids there is a really great adventure game called Simon the Sorcerer that is sold here.
DeadlyRamon: If any of you are looking for some games to play with kids there are some really great third- and first-person shooters called Postal, Postal 2, Blood, and Blood 2 that are sold here!
; )
You just had to do that didn't you! :-)
Actually, my little brother might have been something between 8 and 13 when I introduced him to blood. I guess older brothers is one of the major "gateways" of violent video games for kids.
I can't remember exactly when he first played blood (or watched it) but I think he must have been 8 - 10 years old when I stopped to play the violent video games in secret.
At first I played Final Doom and Blood demo in secret, because my dad did not want any violent video games on our computer.
The games that I did use to soften up the rules (I can't remember if this was intentional or not) was the Azrazel's Tear demo (coming to GoG sometime soon?) a first person shooter\adventure that wasn't as violent as the other first person shooters and the first Grand Theft Auto game because it wasn't a first person shooter (it was quite violent though... :-)
And a half year or a year and a half later, Blood and Doom was played openly on the computer and I think my brother played them too. At least GTA, maybe some years passed before he got to play the first person shooters.
Back then, GTA wasn't infamous as Carmageddon, they did manage to surpass them later though.
There are different standards on these things though, a girl I worked with played Doom and Quake with her dad from a very young age.
She grew up to be an intelligent feminist.
Sargon: I'm interested in playing some of the earlier games with my nephew and niece. The first four seem like the best because they seem like fun adventures. Number 5 and 6 seem to be more plot heavy, and the plot seem rather cheesy and full of Disney sentimentality. They seem to many qualities though, and look as they can be enough, but not too scary for my seven year old niece. I will most certainly turn off the voices go for text only!
DukeNukemForever: While checking the wiki-page about Sierra your post came back in my mind. There is a Sierra game made for Walt Disney called The Black Cauldron. You maybe want to this check out, because it was especially made for kids and it's actually free. You can grab it from Al Lowes webpage, who is the programmer of this games and more known for his Larry games. There are also some of his other games which Sierra made these days for Walt Disney. You just need to know to get them to work under DosBox.

Edit: Ahh, reading your post again I see you're not a Disney-fan. But maybe you give it a look, the game looks very Sierra-oldstyle and not Disney-colourful like KQ7 or Torins Passage.
Thanks for the tip Lazarus. It's not just the graphics, but sometimes if something is good you can put up with the bad.
