It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.
I remember when I played this game I gave it up quickly.

Mostly because zombies appear on the second level? Or the third? I wanted more stealing than hiding from zombies..
Any word on what is used?

Will we still need widescreen fix, movies fix, texture fix, multicore fix, video fix, audio fix, etc.

I know DDfix did more than just bypass a few hard settings, so I'm curious if that was included or will we still need that?

Instant buy regardless. I already bought TDP and TG, but the GoG version is still necessary ;)

SimonG: without getting to hard/unfair
right, it's been really long since I haven't started a game on any other difficulty than "easy" :) thanks!
Wohoo! I've never played the first game even though I own the other 2 - glad it's finally buyable again.
YES! This is the very definition of instabuy for me.

Me too! I thought the game skipped too quickly from clumsy guards (in the 1st level) to frightening zombies. This mood change was upsetting.
But well, I was twelve at the time, might give it another try now! ;-)

No subforum?
Haven't had the chance to play it myself but I heard a lot about this one. I might just play it some day...

ps: Well done GOG! I like how you started 2012! :) Keep it up.

Then you want the sequel, Thief 2: The Metal Age. They listened to the feedback, and there are almost no zombies in that one. Just good old fashioned stealing. Still, the first game can be very scary at times; the sequel lost that.

I own all the Thief games, but never played the Gold version of the first one. I'll pick it up one of these days.

And yes, you should play this game on hardest difficulty. And no, you do not have to kill anyone. It's pretty awesome.

Darn it....my backlog is already sooooo full. Wishlisted until I reduce it. XD
hmm, weird minimum system spec - a little bit high? no windows 7? I'll wait for info about stability

How so, no Win 7? "compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)"

Never mind the minimum specs at the bottom of the page, that's the default spec you find on every Gog page for games past a certain age. Ultima 7's got the same, for example!

The game page says it's compatible with Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit).
