It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.

GOG, I can´t thank you enough, this game is the reason why I joined GOG, hoping Thief might pop up one day. He did, sneaksie taffer, he did :)

thanks!
Fantastic new release

I remember when I played this game a couple of years ago I had to download specific files just to get the game running on my modern PC, so it's great that GOG released this all patched up, DRM free and ready for modern OS'es

I actually own the Big box version so I'm not in a hurry to buy it but I definitely will eventually, for a backup, extras and for my GOG Shelf: Wishlisted

gmx: wonder when someone create something like church of GOG ;]
This would result in holy war against the Steam Episcopalists only to be overthrown by the Appleian I-Unitarians in the end. :)

lowyhong: Meh. Looks like a mediocre game. Appears too dark from the screenshots, the graphics look like crap, and why does the main character rob graveyards? Haven't we enough first person shooters already? Pass.

Asbeau: *chuckle*
Haha, good one, you almost had me fooled ;-)
Awesome!
It was always a pain in the arse to install this game on a modern computer so I will definitely buy it again.

keeveek: I remember when I played this game I gave it up quickly.

Mostly because zombies appear on the second level? Or the third? I wanted more stealing than hiding from zombies..

MasodikTiasma: Me too! I thought the game skipped too quickly from clumsy guards (in the 1st level) to frightening zombies. This mood change was upsetting.
But well, I was twelve at the time, might give it another try now! ;-)
I would recommend another go at it. The plot takes you to a graveyard, so I don't think its THAT abrupt. But in the grand scheme of the game the zombies actually play a small part. MOST of the game is against humanoid mobs. Its also a bit survival horror when you fist see them, but once you realize the many tools you have to deal with them, they become much less of a threat. The mission objective gives a small hint about reports of haunting or something like that... I.E. load up on holy water, fire arrows, flash bombs, mines, water arrows, etc ;)

IMHO, its the robots in T2 that I don't like.
Waiting for Metal Age. Still want this though, as I haven't play the gold version. Metal Age just brought a new kind of hassle in terms of getting it to work and I've yet to play that.

This is a great release for gog, I can't think of any place else that offers it digitally. The birth of modern stealth action. WOO

Well, there's this one store, begins with Gamer and ends with Gate. It's Thief 2 that is hard to find, not so much this game.

EDIT: As has been pointed out, that is the non-Gold version. Thief Gold is apparently a GOG exclusive.

GG has the non-gold Thief.

TomNook: The game page says it's compatible with Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit).

That was the one thing I was unsure about. And the price is better for Europeans over here, too.
