Since it uses emulation for old games how is the performance? Is it worth buying from VC?

The emulation is really good for NES and SuperNES games, but games for N64 could give you little problems (for example Ocarina of Time has little sound issue, nothing important anyway).

What abou Gameboy Color(Oracle of Ages etc...) and GBA games?
Does anyone know if Mother 2 (Earthbound) is available for the 3DS or if it's just Wii (or WiiU). I was considering getting a points/cash/whatever card and getting the game but I'm unsure if the game was available from VC in general or only for specific devices.
wait wait wait I'm always looking for good NES emulations to relive my childhood (anything after that I could care less); I take it this is a web site?

There are so many really good GB/GBC/GBA games I would love to see released for VC, like Boku Dracula-kun (yep there was a GB version of the game), and the Mother trilogy. I also would love to see a lot more really good non-localized games get released with a translation done. Unlike modern games with only text patching would be a hell of a lot cheaper than localizing games with voice acting work.

Modern Nintendo devices from the DSi/Wii forward have Virtual Console emulation for older titles and some titles that never came to English speaking countries. It is nice for those who want legal copies of emulated games, and in many cases the prices aren't too bad. Similar idea to the PS1/PSP/PS2 emulation on the PSN (I'm still hoping they bring Harmful Park to the NA PSN store).

Damn, I only have a Wii and 3DS for systems connectable to the Nintendo eShop. :(

Bullshit is some games are available for Wii like Super Castlevania but not available for 3DS. Why is that?

And Earthbound only for WiiU. What the fuck?

Theta_Sigma: Boku Dracula-kun
Was that Kid Dracula? The name suggests it is.

That was close to my reaction to it. It is such an amazing game and an amazing series, they should be trying to get it available to everyone to enjoy.

Yep it is, I love that game, among many other import titles. I still need to get a physical cart for the Famicom and GB though for my collection.

My sister used to have it on her Gameboy and she chucked it out. She used to love that game, and she will probably shit bricks when I tell her how much it's worth nowadays.

It's an interesting 'translation' of the name into English. I couldn't speak Japanese back then, but when you look at it now, the English title loses a lot in translation - how do you convey the difference between watashi and boku, how do you convey the idea of calling someone "kun", and how do you convey the rather bizarre idea of calling yourself "kun". "

"I'm Dracula and I'm the man, dude!"

Right, as someone who has the misfortune of owning a Nintendo device at the moment, lemme break it down to you.

The Virtual Console sucks. The emulation is incredibly bare bones, there's nothing really there to enhance the value, or in the case of games like Urban Champion, give value. No themed borders for Game Boy titles, no display options, and you're lucky to have the option of a single savestate, but slower.

There isn't even a freaking button remap. Also, for some baffling reason, Europeans are getting slapped with inferior 50htz versions when PAL TVs can do 60 nowadays. WITH NO OPTION TO SWITCH, I might add.

I was hoping that the Virtual Console would be something worthwhile, something like GOG, a treasury of classic games at fair prices, but the prices are bad, their efforts aren't even 1/8th assed, the stagnation would kill a camel, and forget about getting games from outside your region, even if I could get Terranigma because its in English, and no, there isn't a wishlist system.

In short, if its just the games running well and legally, then go ahead and spend the minimum of 3 USD per game.

Otherwise, forget it. Gee, Nintendo, it wouldn't kill you to use your massive back catalogue to make a killing, would it? Grumble grumble...sitting on gold...

Also, there aren't any GBA games on the 3DS, because Nintendo, being the masters of logic they are, think that GBA and DS games belong on a failed nonportable system. How I wish I was kidding.

I am very...angry at Nintendo in this regard.

Oh man, I would have so bought it, I absolutely love that game. Yeah Harmful Park for PS1 is in the $200USD range funny enough and that game is a fantastic SHMUP game but the price is insane.

Yeah, thankfully you can still play a lot of these games without really needing to know much in the way of the language (if at all). You are right, it's sad how much is lost in translation with some languages to others and how even in one's own language two similar words can have completely different context or situational purposes. To an extent I like VA work when it comes to Japanese games since I understand the spoken language way more than I do the written one.

Damn skippy!

That's wrong for a start. All VC games since F-Zero have been the US 60Hz versions, and Balloon Fight has since also been updated to 60Hz.
