Anyone remember this game. I recently discovered that it is now Freeware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Must_Fall:_2097) so it's been great playing this game again. It runs perfectly in DOSBOX
It's brilliant isn't it. I like playing a Katana most, The only one I have real trouble with, both as and against, is Flail.

Flail was always my favorite robot! He is the only one I compleled the game with.
I never got far enough into the game to try out the different robots properly, and I hardly even memorised any of the special moves, but damn I loved that game :D
I'm a Shadow pilot. Too bad the sequel wasn't all that great.
Plain old Jaguar was alwasy #1 for me.

Somehow I also still find myself using Jaguar the most.

Amazing how the really simple games last in our memories so long. They tried to make a sequel with 3d battlegroun etc, but it never captured the charm of this one.
It's probably my favorite fighter, yeah. My brother always favored the Shadow and the Chronos, where I was a Pyros or a Flail kinda guy.

My brother always kicked my butt, though, so my choices were probably not the best.
Look what I found:

I was also a katana fan; I never really did any good with it, but man those blades were cool. Hey, now that it's freeware, how about releasing it on GOG as a freebie?

Pyros and Flail were my favourites too; I suppose that means your brother would have kicked my butt too.

Anyway, as much as I love the game, I've never been able to consistently pull off scraps/destructions :(

Jaguar all the way! I only ONCE ever successfully pulled off a destruction however.
I usually went for the Jaguar or the Gargoyle, myself. That was my favourite fighting game.
Is it better than Rise of the Robots?

:D
Oh wow, yes!! I love One Must Fall 2097 and used to pilot the Jaguar and Flail bots. And of course Nova, after unlocking him (I mostly played Tournament Mode, as I loved the progression and upgrades system).

The sequel was a letdown, sadly, and I haven't heard anything new about the series since. Didn't know it was freeware either :) any chance of seeing it on the site, GOG.com Team? Maybe as a free title, like Dragonsphere and Tyrian 2000 (which are also freeware IIRC)? I for one would love to have it on my shelf!
This should be right up there with Doom as one of the most ground-breaking PC releases of all time, but it seems to have settled for being a cult classic. I hope the Elam brothers at least made some decent money out of it.

It looked great, was brilliant fun, had all of the hallmarks of the other great fighting games of its era, and it introduced concepts (like tweaking your power / speed) that weren't introduced into many console fighting games until a decade later.

:D
I'm pretty sure the original One Must Fall was better than Rise of the Robots.
