Alright, that new Robocop movie, it's out now. But who wants to see that crap, right?

I just got done watching 'Our Robocop Remake' a fan scene for scene recreation of the original movie made by multiple groups taking on individual scenes with a comedic touch. As a result some scenes are definitely funnier than others, but overall it's a good laugh. I'm going to see the Hollywood remake later today but I'm sure I've just ruined it for myself.

Check it out if you've got an hour and forty five minutes to spare.

Oh uhh, they turned that dick shooting scene up to 11, you may want to brace yourself for that one.
I am still going to see the film with this mind set:

"It cannot be worse than Robocop 2 and 3"
I think I'll be watching a ProtonJon livestream instead.
I actually do want to see the new RoboCop, but with my mind set firmly on the fact that it isn't a modern remake of the 1987 original, but rather a completely different take on the same basic concept. I actually think it's a good thing that they seem to explore the concept from a quite different angle than the original, since that may mean the movie will hold up on its own. I think any attempt to actually recreate the original would fall flat on its ass.

11? I'd say they turned it up to around 175! Holy shit!

ROFL XD admittedly I was understating it for this precise response. The last bit of that scene is like "it's over 9000!!!!"
Samuel motherfuckin' Jackson is in it. I will watch it, but it probably won't be in theaters when I do. I already missed the 2nd Hobbit due to my laziness and work travel. I haven't seen any other movies that would warrant paying the price of the bluray for watching it once. Once it get's discounted below $20 on bluray, I'll snatch it up.
What is with poor Paul Verhoeven!?
His classics like RoboCop and Total Recall they remake (and poorly) and all the while they leave Showgirls alone.

But they did remake Showgirls! :p

The Hobbit movie is worth maybe $5. OTOH, I'd recommend waiting until somebody puts up a custom cuesheet that removes the 2/3 of the movie that's pointless Peter Jackson wankering.

Robocop looks rather intriguing, but I probably won't spend the money on tickets.
I just got back from the cinema, I didn't mind it. I went in with low expectations and it managed to rise above them thankfully.

I'll keep my mini review spoiler free:

There's definitely things the original did better, for example the story was more cohesive and (I think this is more of an 80's action movie trope) the villains were far more memorable.

One thing the remake does well is make a mockery of our various countries' ratings systems. It actually manages to show scenes that I think are far more disturbing and shocking than what was in the original, yet just because there isn't a guy with his own bodyweight in blood squibs it still gets a lower rating. It shows just how superficial the ratings are. However I doubt very much that was the point of the movie so that's not really a plus for it, just an observation.

I liked the slight change in focus of the story. It was a little more of a personal story this time, with Murphy's wife and kid playing a bigger role in it, something I felt was missing from the original. But again it felt a little disjointed, there wasn't much of a connection between the different plot lines and by the end the whole thing felt forced and a little rushed.

That's about all I can say without being spoilery. Oh and I doubt I'd have gone to see this at all based on the trailers if I hadn't gotten free movie vouchers from my sister for my birthday.
At least a bluray version of Robocop came out of this, and apparently it looks pretty good.
I can't wait to see it, it looks like fun. I don't want a remake of the original... I just want a good Robocop film.
I'll go and watch just for in support of Jackie Haley. I like him, a lot. In Watchmen, Human Target, etc.

I know he's not the main character, but still...

In retrospect Robocop 2 wasn't that bad, if you judged it in accordance with the sequel movies of the day. Robocop 3 however, was full of WTF moments. If you get the chance though, I'd recommend checking out the "Prime Directives" series of TV movies, which were set as sort of an unofficial alternate universe continuity to R2 and R3 (and the utterly horrible Canadian TV series). I'll admit that Prime Directives was really cheezy (and itself is full of really strange WTF-worthy moments), but at least they were more consistent with the dark, satirical tone of the first movie.
