That reminds me that I haven't seen the Total Recall remake yet either.
It is quite hard to remake the magic that make original movies so great. Just mimicking the original is not necessarily enough. I saw The Hitcher remake, it was overall ok I guess, but just not the same. Rutger Hauer was missing, for one thing.
Same goes for The Office TV-series. Ok, the US remake is fine and there are good laughs and apparently the creator of the original had his fingers in it, but the UK version is just... better. Even if they speak a kind of English that is sometimes quite hard for me to understand (the British phrases and terms, etc.).
Wishbone: I actually do want to see the new RoboCop, but with my mind set firmly on the fact that it isn't a modern remake of the 1987 original, but rather a completely different take on the same basic concept. I actually think it's a good thing that they seem to explore the concept from a quite different angle than the original, since that may mean the movie will hold up on its own. I think any attempt to actually recreate the original would fall flat on its ass. That's true too. Robocop 2 and 3 tried to mimick the original with the humor and violence, but mostly missed the point what made the original special. Wrong director, I guess.
tinyE: What is with poor Paul Verhoeven!?
His classics like RoboCop and Total Recall they remake (and poorly) and all the while they leave Showgirls alone. I saw an article or Youtube video using Showgirls as one example of movies which destroyed the career of the lead actor/actress (in Showgirls, that blond hottie).
I didn't know her before that movie, but apparently she had mostly just some small TV show parts after it, like a short role in one episode if C.S.I.: Miami.
IMDB lists something more for her though, but apparently nothing remarkable. But hey, something is better than nothing!

And as I revealed before, I overall liked Showgirls. It still had that nice rough Verhoeven touch.
