This also seems like a good place to resurrect www.mapofmetal.com

fr33kSh0w2012: Velvet Revolver They are Awessome
I have no respect for a band that has turned away every half way decent singer who has audtioned for them. I mean damn.... what are they waiting for? Axl Rose to want to join the band.... I say that as a joke, but sad part is that it is probably true.
Of course, how could I forget about mapofmetal.com!

Also, in the last few days I am listening to way too much Flyleaf :)

But you mentioned Faith No More, who are guilty of the exact same crime ...

I'll put something together when I get home tonight. I don't know if I can make many recommendations for symphonic metal specifically, since I haven't heard many bands that are really suited to that label that I actually like, but I'll toss out a few more general favorites. Other than symphonic, what kind of metal are you into?

Shouldn't we be a little more verbose for the OP, though? Personally, I don't find a wall of names to be very helpful, and there are a lot of totally different bands posted right next to each other here - which means that picking a few names isn't going to be representative of the list as a whole. Speaking for myself, when I see lists like that, I'm really not likely to go through every one of them blindly in hopes of finding one that I like - I can do that myself on eMusic or a shoutcast. Be more descriptive, add a Youtube link; I think it helps a lot.
The Beatles.

Hehehehe! *runs away*
Awww, if you're primarily interested in metal then there's not much new I can post here, really, since most everybody's already covered it pretty well.

Besides, when it comes to Metal I'm a bit generic. Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Emperor, Static X (if you're willing to accept Rap Metal, which most people nowadays seem to see as an atrocity,) and maybe a touch or two of Black Sabbath (I prefer Dio-era.)

If you're interested in other types of rock, though I've got a lot of great suggestions. Here goes!

Islands: great pop-rock sound, with interesting lyrics.
Deathmole: Kinda metal-ish, it's Jeph Jaques of Questionable Content fame jamming out.
Alice Cooper: Watch the horror on your friends' faces as they listen to the lyrics to "Cold Ethel."
Uriah Heap: One of my favorite all time bands. If you like Metal, they helped inspire it.
Jethro Tull: Brit Invasion/Folk Rock. Won MTV's first Metal Award, and declined it. See why.
Blue Oyster Cult: Don't Fear The Reaper is just the tip of the iceberg here, trust me.
Passafire: Okay, so reggae/ska isn't really rock per se, but they're damn good!
Abney Park: Post-goth(?) steampunk rock. Awesomeness.
Apocalyptica: Symphonic metal? Howabout Cello Metal?
George Thorogood: Can you tell I grew up on classic and southern rock yet?
Days Of The New: Acoustic rock, yes, but more "Alice In Chains Unplugged" than the normal variety
Dragonforce: Absolutely ridiculous, yet pretty damn good to boot.
Nevermore: See Dragonforce, but add a crappy singer who's way too serious about things.
Dry Kill Logic: I like them, but I'm not really all that sure why.
Dusty Springfield: Okay, not rock by far, but it's a rule of mine that EVERYONE MUST LOVE DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
Veruca Salt: Chick rock with an edge, and a good one at that, at least their early stuff.
The Mars Volta: Strange spanish experimental rock. A must have.
The Cardigans: Okay, it's pop, but listen to the lyrics. No, seriously, listen. It's like if Smashing Pumpkins had a love child with The Partridge Family. Also, best version of "Iron Man" ever.
Skunk Anansie: Angry black lady screamin' at you and stuff.
Psychostick: Listen to "This Is Not A Song, It's A Sandwich" and you'll be hooked for life.
The Cassettes: Like old-timey southern rock but with a bit of the modern thrown in.

If you get one thing from the above list, make it Psychostick. Seriously. PSYCHOSTICK.

How the hell are they guilty of the same crime? They fired Chuck "Can't sing to save his life" Mosely & almost immediately hired Mike "God of all creation" Patton & haven't had a change in singers since.

Neither am I.... I'm just stating my opinion.

I was referring to their inability to stick with a guitarist. You forgot Mike Morris, by the way.
