Navagon: Ha! Exactly. I could save some money on hardware upgrades that way too. My computer is depressingly not meeting the recommended specs of some upcoming games. :(

hedwards: I've been doing that for a while now. I broke with it for a period after having been gifted a copy of FO3, but being a poor grad student, I'm not really sure that it's worth the bonuses that they are giving out to have to upgrade my video card.
Some video cards are like 80-90 bucks and some come with free shipping. What's so expensive about that? Plus it future proofs your PC a bit longer.

I have a Radeon 4670(Pci-e) I could sell ya cheap if yer interested.

When I upgrade I'll be upgrading mobo and RAM too. So yeah, I want to hold out on that as long as I can. For most games there's no logical reason at all to upgrade right now. So it's not something I'll be doing for a while yet.

What's so expensive is that I haven't any income and until I finish my program late next month, I'm unlikely to have any money. Right now I'm subsisting on savings.

Yes, I tend to agree with you that it's not a huge outlay, but spending $40-50 on a game and then another $80-90 on a video card to play that game isn't really affordable right now.

You can have my 4850 if you want it. Just pay for the postage.
/me looks at his 7600GT.
/me whispers "i still love you, despite your blocky flashlight in swat4".

I remember having blocky miscolored flashlight in No One Lives Forever 1, because my 4MB video card at the time couldn't handle the game.

Well, the card actually should handle it. Blocky flashlight was on Pixel Shader 1.1 cards, the correct one was on PS2.0. 7600GT should have the normal round one, the game sees PS2.0 shaders, it just doesn't work. I think the whole 7xxx family has it, i've seen it on two 7600gt's and one 7300gs[?]. What pis..d me off, it worked great on my old rad x800gto.
I went for the shaders, so i could experience BioShock, a wonderful linear experience of irritating level design [room with 4 doors, one is the one you came in, one is closed, one is flooded, the door you came in collapses, ugh..].

Btw, SWAT 4, great level design, BioShock, shi''ty level design. [Though i understand, the story required such a sacrifice.]

Thanks, I had considered making you an offer when I saw your post over in the ebay thread, but I suspect that shipping is going to be prohibitively expensive.

I'd probably be less angsty about this if I had a good sense of what the job market is going to look like in a few months. Not knowing where I'm going to be working or how much is really putting a dent in my outlook on finances.

I'm in the US so shipping would be reasonable. It's a 1GB DDR2(3?) PCI-e card and will def. fit your system.

Up to you. As I said I'm practically giving it away.

Forgive the tone, I doubt it's not going to come off as I'd like.

I'd just feel more comfortable if most of the money actually went to somebody here rather than shipping. Especially if I'm going to be spending that much on it.

But, thank you very much for the offer.

Check it. FedEX may be a good option, but I need info from you to calculate costs to ship. Look at your PMs.

Yep, got it and FedEx should be fine. I've rarely had any trouble with them apart from delays.

I had problems with FedEx so i'm going USPS...they say priority mail, once I ship can arrive in about two business days. Check PM for info.
