Since I'm guilty for ruining your fun on that last round, I'm going to suggest an equally mean and evil scenario, where you can have your fun ;)
Get either 8 or 16 people to participate and hand out one or respectively two characters of the code to each. Now to the interesting part. Each 20 (40) minutes, send every person another random fragment of the code that the person didn't have before. This way you 'increase the pressure' on exchanging fragments. If two participants are willing to exchange parts of their knowledge, they handle that through PM to you (which ensures that they don't get a fragment they already had by your random handouts and that nobody is betraying). Nobody can know if they just delivered the last required fragment of code, thus trading isn't a secure loss and you're always updated on what's happening to your own private pleasure ;)
