Talk to them, or raid them.

Depths of Peril, an action role-playing title with some elements of strategy mixed in for original flavor, is now available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

The life of a barbarian warlord is no easy one. One must deal with rival factions through diplomacy, trade, and in time, war. Between battles and raids against other barbarian tribes, you build the most powerful faction possible, to withstand your enemies. Building the power of a faction involves exploring a fantasy world, slaying dangerous monsters, solving quests for the city, avoiding deadly traps, and plundering loot to share within your faction. But in this world, actions actually have consequences, so take care. Annoying the powerful and aggressive Legion of Fear faction will cause them to declare war and destroy you. Ignored Orc uprisings in the Black Forest will cause even more trouble. Protect ally covenants that are being raided, because friends are hard to come by.

Depths of Peril is a single-player action RPG (role-playing game) with strong strategy elements. You play as a faction leader protecting the barbarian city, Jorvik, by destroying threatening monsters and completing quests. At the same time, you compete with rival factions to see who will rule the city. Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death! The game comes with some interesting gameplay ideas, like a dynamic 3D world in which your actions truly have consequences and diplomatic relations matter. On top of that, clear and colorful graphics, and solid action-RPG mechanics make the game well worth your time.

If you haven't yet heard about the developer Soldak Entertainment, a small studio with a decade-long history of games made with love, make sure to pick up Depths of Peril for only $9.99 on GOG.com. If you have, we probably don't need to convince you!
Not a bad game.
But since Soldak's here, I'll be waiting for Din's Curse + Demon War.
Go find 11 Pixie Tails; how could I not want to?
what??! I buy Din's and Drox with their expansions and now they might come to GOG?? Oh well, looks like I'll just have to buy them from here too... my favourite place. Nice to see Soldak here, hopefully it will give them a big boost in sales, they make interesting titles and I'd love to see more.

tinyE: How is it a game that looks like that is only 96MB? Pong isn't much smaller than that.

JMich: Guess you haven't heard of .kkrieger then.
I remember trying that out back when they originally released it. I think it was more of a technology demonstration, but really impressive back then. In fact, I think my computer at the time couldn't really run it decently. :P

Might try it out again, just for fun. Thanks for the reminder.

Too bad they never did more with this ( to my knowledge ), since it's a pretty fascinating concept.

I remember watching a youtube video of that, its incredible what they did. Demo groups do amazing things.

rtcvb32: Yeah based on the size of it I wondered how much of the textures and other files are generated fractionally (or from some other form).
From what I remember reading, basically everything is generated algorithmically.

Jonathanimal: someone wrote a review titled, "Deep but hard to penetrate."
Its good to know I'm not the only one here who has a dirty mind. I smiled when I saw that title too.

I also got a chuckle out of the Mac requirements: OSX 10.7 with 1.5 GHz PowerPC or Intel processor. PowerPC Macs can't run 10.7 :) The game actually only needs 10.4 and per the dev's website it will run on 10.3.9 if you install OpenAL. GOG lists 10.7 for support reasons.

I tried the demo several years ago. Personally in my opinion this is not a bad game per se, but somehow the "clear and colorful graphics" turned me off.

rtcvb32: From the video my first impression is unpolished. It has too many elements from common hack&slash games (Diablo 2 to name one) that most of it's features seem they aren't worth-while. Explore dark dungeons, Get loot to sell, trade with vendors...

It looks like it would have been made 2000-ish or before, but the style makes me wonder if it was once a flash game and got changed mid-development.

Well I'd give it a try if it happens to go on sale, but I'm not rushing to the checkout to get it.
Well, it was the first game of a new indie studio back in 2007. They also tried to bring some fresh air on oversaturated hack&slash genre. If you want more refined gaming experience, but don't expect AAA game level graphics, you should wait for until their later games (Din's Curse and Drox Operative with their expansions) come to GOG and try them instead.

This. I already own it on steam, but I'll buy it again on GOG to show my support :) Can we hope for Drox Operative as well? :D

Done! I would also like to see the other games from Soldak Entertainment here on GOG.
Nice addition to GOG.
Looks fun. Wishlisted for the time being.
I own every Soldak game and I love them. I would love to see the other games on here as well, I might would rebuy them but even if not I highly recommend Soldak games. They are fun and have unique twist on the Action RPG genre.
