There is a great pirate themed MMO called Puzzle Pirates, if you like puzzle games...

Giltonnam: I thought they remastered it already? It's available in the iOS store, and available on steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/3920/. Or are you talking about another game?

reaver894: I dont mind the one on steam (IIRC the 360 has a version too) What I would hate to see is a developer turning it into a new game with modern graphics and essentially ruin it. If (and its a big if) a developer could do it without it loosing its charm fair enough but if it were up to me I wouldnt give them a chance, It would be like turning Baldurs Gate into a first person action game
You mean the "fantastic" modern remake which saw fit to include a QTE dancing mini-game? Yeah, that's what I always wanted in Pirates...
SOE already has an pirates MMO, I forogt the name. As far I'm concerned, I think the latest version of pirates would be almost impossible to improve upon.
Pirates is probably my all time favorite game (any version), it really is... it just captivated me so much growing up.

I do wish they could update it... better, non-cartoony graphics, more gameplay options, more items/equipment/weapons, probably less of the dancing crap that's in the newest one.

True. I think it got rid of the land combat thing though too, that was a plus in my book. Never felt like the land combat worked well...

reaver894: The game is fine as it is, the last thing id want to see is it bastardized into an MMO or even remade with new graphics.

The iOS version is a port of a remake :)

The 2004 version has land combat, although IIRC it's somewhat simplified compared to the classic version.

I never had any trouble with the dancing thing, although everyone complains about it. It's still a game I play regularly, although I can see an argument that the original version is still the best.
I'd rather they go back to their Civil War series(though I haven't played any of those, hopefully GOG will make it easy), we have enough pirate games.
There are several remakes of the game, but they are essentially the same, only with updated graphics and and some adjustments.
Personally I'd like to see Pirates! with much stronger RPG parts and less "twitching", and turn based tactical combat.
I played a ton of the original C64 pirates and own every remake. Not a fan of how they keep dumbing it down (removing sun spotting, adding an in game map, making it into a cartoon), however I could see multiplayer being effective in the 2004 version. I see it as being subtle, no chat, no choice of rooms, and no save, just click play online and the server will put you in a world where some of the other 'notorious pirates' are real players, and when they drop they're continued by the AI.

Pirates of the Burning Sea-- I played this for a while. As I recall, the atmosphere was great, and the ship-to-ship combat was fun, but land missions and hand-to-hand combat were pretty dire. I stopped playing it when SOE got hacked and haven't gone back.
You could always try Pirate101 ;-)

Seriously - there is a PSP Version - I haven't played it yet.
