adambiser: To clarify a little more, they don't allow games with SecuROM or Tages (which GG does allow).

One time key activation seems to be the only DRM they've allowed so far. Whether that just means the key is only needed for online play like it does for some of GOG's games will depend on the game

EDIT:
But of course, you're welcome to use whatever store you want. :)

timppu: Yeah, I guess there's a reason I write this on a GOG forum, and not ShinyLoot or Steampowered forums. Don't know what your reason to write here is. :)

Mentioning "one time key activation" with online game components doesn't make sense, as naturally with online (multiplayer) games you are validated every time you start playing.

I guess the linked interview clarified it more, ie. they allow (single-player) DRM as long as it requires authentication only once. I just hope they were not trying to be cute there and soon reveal "Well, we meant you only need to authenticate once every time you start the game, hee, hee, hee...".

So at best they sell like Steamworks games which don't have additional third-party DRM, and have actually functional offline mode. But still far from GOG's lack of DRM.
I included the EDIT part because I didn't want to seem like I was attacking or anything.
I prefer DRM-free of course. :)

I haven't bought anything off of that site, so I can't really speak from any experience. I do agree that the wording is a bit ambiguous.

timppu: Pass. It's yet another GamersGate (but without AAA titles, I guess).
More like (the old?) Desura. ShinyLoot has no client, so if a game is listed as "Protection: None" it actually is DRM-free. Apparantly they have no strict 100% DRM-free policy towards developers, but contrary to GamersGate they officially offer lots of DRM-free games and do not seem to lie about it on the game cards. Plus, as I've learned yesterday, the third-party-keys are a bonus; they don't just sell Steam keys for some games as GG does (in some cases, you get a DRM-free installer, a Steam key and a Desura key for the price of one game).

I have one big problem with ShinyLoot. I don't like that they have 3 different types of deals that are all technically the same kind of deal for different parts of the week that are all on separate pages.

Gird yourself for a programmer's take. :)

Since ShinyLoot doesn't have a "view all games" option, but rather relies on their multiple searches, it it very likely a consequence of their site architecture that forces the sales into multiple pages like that. Basically each page is a kind of "tagged" view, in some cases bringing up the games by whatever genre or trait you have searched on. Or in the case of the sales, by which sale they are tagged as part of.

The stuff on the deals page (Tues/Weds/Thurs) is only discounted for 24 hours, and typically is the most heavy discounted (seems to average about 80% off). On the weekends it is replaced by the [url=http://www.shinyloot.com/weekend-deals]Weekend deals (Fri-Sun), which probably have their own separate page because they cover a different time span (three days).

The Weekly deals page items are discounted for seven days (naturally), and average around the 50%-off mark. A new Weekly set debuts every Monday.

The Launch deals page is only while they are celebrating their go-live, and will eventually disappear one expects.

Lastly, the Sales page seems to just be a convenient catch-all to bring up the whole sale item selection. I recommend the Sale page if you like a central source. It handily presents the games in order of highest discount percentage to lowest, too.

If that's really what it is, it makes sense but it's unwieldy.

I'll probably just end up bookmarking the sales page like you'd mentioned but I figured I'd mention I was frustrated with the fact that there are so many different sales pages, rather than just a filter on the conglomerate sales page or something like what Steam does on the homepage.

At least they're really good discounts haha.
Another new interview:

Well, that didn't last too long:

Steamworks Policy Change, Future ShinyLoot Focus

We are starting to refocus our efforts here at ShinyLoot for what we think provides the best compliment to the stores that are already out there. Moving forward our focus will be centered around game discovery and exploration. To do that, we felt we couldn't limit our library to only games that had a DRM-free or DRM-lite version. So moving forward, we will allow the sale of games that require Steam.
...
4) Minimized DRM. If we have to choose between DRM-free and Steam, we'll still choose DRM-free. A great example of this in action is the Gothic series. Additionally, we will still avoid nasty DRM like SecuROM and never require you to use a separate client for any of the DRM-free or DRM-lite games that we sell.

Curious to hear IAmSinistars and Momos thoughts on this, and others who have been supportive of ShinyLoot. Can't say I'm not a little bummed.

Booh!
I hope they at least stick to point #4.
As long as they don't make the already DRM-free games also on Steam require Steam from now on...

I've been supportive of ShinyLoot and now, as far as I'm concerned, they can go fuck themselves. They have absolutely no selling point in the market anymore.

I'm disappointed in them, as it feels to me like they have given up and relegated themselves to "also-ran" status with this move. By caving on their original principles they have lost the goodwill they had with me. I held (and hold) GOG to their word, and demand no less of the other stores that get my business. Looks like SL won't be one of them now.

I really liked ShinyLoot and have had good interaction with their customer service, so this is really disappointing. Can't say I'm interested in shopping with them anymore.
I am confused why a store can not sell both DRM-free and DRM'd games at once... Surely it is just increasing the profitability of the store, which makes them survive longer to bring everyone the games they want, and maintain the online backups for a longer time (something like that...). Overspecialise and die?
I'm also very disappointed. I came to like ShinyLoot and their business model, but it seems they decided to become another of the many DRM-infested shops and Steam key resellers now. Not sure why I should support them any longer.

Pretty much my stance as well.
