Tantrix: Actually, this is an argument for having SH2, SH3 and Sh4 on GoG, since Konami gave them all up practically. Even Metal Gear Solid 1&2 have been totally disregarded after MGS4
avatar
Navagon: Judging from the effort they put into the actual ports, I don't know. They were obviously trying to make a fast buck with minimal effort. But then releasing them here would achieve the same thing.

Good thing is those games are esay to mod. Well, I know MGS 2 does. I also heard the SH games are moddable. Meaning we could imrprove the shitty ports even surpassing the console version.
This is what happened to Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 3/4

Really? Because I was interested in RE4, but not in playing a crappy port. I'll keep that in mind.
Konami is a weird one for sure, I've heard they protect those old Silent hills from piracy (shutting down websites and pirate distribution of them) Despite how old and unavailable they have become. Its a bit silly, I imagine it costs more to protect them now since they arent making money on them now, afterall when Scalpers sell them for $50 to 100$, that money isnt going to konami I can tell you. it'd be very worth it for them to get them added for DD.
Though I've noticed alot of Konami titles on steam these days most noticeably Homecoming and SAW, maybe they are coming out of their shell?

Oh you gonna miss alot.
Sure, the port itself is pure shit, but thanks to capcom's lazy devs you can go direcetly into the source engine and it's hex codes.
There are already mods which even surpass the console version itself!

I can also explain to you how to mod DMC3. You could even switch skin textures with it's sequel to give Dante and his weapons high res.
Sorry for the thread necro, but after how awful the HD releases on consoles turned out to be, it would be AMAZING to somehow people brought these games to the top of the wishlist.

I mean right now, SH 2 and SH 3 would be graphically superior to the so-called "HD collection" versions. After some tweaking of course.

It would be really unlikely for this to happen, but a man can dream.

Navagon: Highly unlikely. There are several problems with that idea. Firstly, Konami, being a Japanese publisher, probably has an allergic reaction to the mere mention of digital distribution. Either way they're a console publisher first and foremost and the PC ports of their games are something of an afterthought.

That's before you get into the other issues they might have with GOG. But I really doubt it's something they'd see as worth the effort.
Don't know why they'd hate the concept so much. After all, they came up with it first back in the early 90s.
Homecoming still sold at $40 and region restricted on Steam. Don't think there will be any Silent Hill games on GOG soon.
Shadow of Destiny was a reasonably fun mystery/puzzle game by Konami, though the PC port suffered from only having 800x600 as highest resolution, and forcing full-screen.

i don't remember having problems with the ports at all. I played SH2 and SH3 on pc with a cheap gamepad, and it was smooth sailing.

LordRikerQ: I was wondering if theres any talk about getting Silent Hill games on here? They made 2,3 and 4 for PC however they are incredibly rare and cost a fortune, I wish GOG would get them, they are classics.
Here in Germany 2, 3 and 4 are going for pretty cheap on Amazon.de. All of them are in English and uncensored. In fact, I think Silent Hill 4 was going for less than a euro.

I couldn't agree more.
I was playing the "HD Collection" of Silent Hill the other day (Promotional copy) and It was just plain awful. I played the HD collection on my X360 and the originals on my PS2 (with a component cable, btw.) Of course I saw the difference from the original games to HD, but I preferred the old games by far.
The so called "HD" graphics have ruined a lot of the environment integrated in the game by removing a significant part of the texture details. I can't even begin to explain how much of the towns mystique and "charm" that have removed in the Collection, So I Hope this video will explain what I mean.

Furthermore the HD collection have actually removed small parts of the cutscenes in SH2
(if you have played the game, you know which I'm talking about) due to the PG-Ratings.
This alone is outrageous since it's some of most significant parts (storywise) of the game. If you buy and pay for the "remake" of the old games, but don't get the full experince, it's not a collection.
At very last the HD "Collection" offers new voice overs which isn't a big deal. If you haven't played the games before you may be able to get used to them, but if you're a old time fan, the new voices just doesn't fit into the SH universe.

Even though we'll be able to print cheese from our computers before SH comes on GOG, it would be amazing if it would happen, since it would provide an alternative other than the HD collection for people who haven't played the game or/and don't own a PS2.

wow, printing cheese would be awesome! Someone invent that fast!
HD or original, i'll gladly buy any of 'em if they decide to re-release it on PC. Don't make another region restricted BS like Homecoming.
I loved 3, which I played during my brief PS2 gaming time. I have always wanted to go back and play 2, which I might do using the HD collection if they fix the damn thing (and I get a console).

I am also weirdly interested in playing the last two on Xbox, Homecoming and Downpour.
I pre-ordered the HD collection and have played it some since getting it last week. SH2 has it's issues, but is far from unplayable (but some aspects of it severely ruin any immersion, like being able to see the end of the level maps because of terrible fog effects). SH3 seems to be the same, but I haven't put nearly as much time into it yet.

Also, both games are far darker than I remember them being on the PC. I mean, I know they are meant to be hard to see, but when I need to max out the game's Brightness setting and turn my tv's brightness nearly to max just to make out anything at all, that's far too dark.

That said, if GOG released 2 & 3 on here, I would snap them up in an instant, or at least during a sale. Homecoming was a decent entry; I didn't care for the brief cameo from Pyramid Head, but it was just that, a brief cameo. And I can't wait until Downpour drops a little bit so I can afford it more easily, woo for some Amazon coupons/vouchers!
