mondo84: Sorry to hear about that. We all hope your wife will be okay.
This.
I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope she'll be alright; knowing what's wrong is the most important step, though, so keep your chin up.
That sounds terrifying. Do they even know the cause?
It is scary. I have a friend whose mother is very susceptible to these. I am glad you were able to handle it, and I hope your wife recovers quickly.

If you're susceptible, extended periods of immobility can lead to blood clots in the legs (DVT). One of the more frequent causes is being confined to an airline seat on long flights, giving it the name "economy class syndrome".
I'm glad that she's on the mend, it could have been a lot worse. Take care of yourself too.
As a doctor I can tell you that pulmonary emboli are quite serious and , as Soyeong said, could have been a lot worse, so yes its very good that it was picked up and is being treated.

Also as mentioned, extended periods of immobility is commonly the cause, however, if your wife is relatively young, screening for certain genetic predispositions (Factor V leiden and Protein S deficiency) should be performed as these may indicate the need for lifelong treatment. Factor V leiden is particularly associated with PE with the use of the oral contraceptive pill.

You can also reassure your wife that the needles are not long term. She will likely be changed over to warfarin tablets for 3-6 months. This will require periodic blood tests to monitor, however.

Best of luck! And make sure you don't exhaust yourself either while looking after your wife.

Elvin37: My wife passed out today
Fuck, my heart was in my throat because I read "My wife passed away today"!

It sounds like Deep Vein Thrombosis, potentially fatal if the clot goes somewhere more important. Naturally, I hope your wife gets better; it seems like she will :)

These posts are a little weird because of the rep you sometimes get. Maybe you've seen it before on Facebook when someone writes "My grandfather passed away today". Then underneath you can see, "Elvin37 and 12 others like this".
