aww man always wanted a gundam real life movie and this pretty much does that, good action sequences and explosion and robots, other then that everything was shit from acting to scripting to directing. The movie should have been action only, there is no story and no one gives a damn about the stunned faced characters, really boring when there was no action and there was very less action considering how long the movie was

Those were just examples, but you know what I'm talking about. If you want other then compare Europa Report to Prometheus. I love action movies about alien invasions, giant monsters and zombies, so I'm not against it. I just like when they are more believable and when they focus on conventional weapons instead on super secret weapons or on exploiting enemy's idiotic weakness (one mothership that control whole fleet).

Also I'm not criticizing Pacific Rim for not being believable, it just not my coup of tea.

I was told it was a great sci fi movie for people into mech things, watched it .... and found it really shallow indeed :

As it was said, this is an assumed action FX movie, which is good in that regard I think. I enjoyed Idris Elba and Ron Perlman respective performances.

However, people becoming insanely rich due to this kind of work seems like a huge waste in my opinion.

I myself will always be game for a showing of "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

There is a theater near my house that I was able to see it for 5 bucks. I felt I was entertained and got my 5 dollars worth. It was a fun popcorn summer movie.

But to be fair, I think the greatest movie ever made was Buckaroo Banzai... so my movie taste is questionable.

Just saw it an hour ago.

When I first saw the trailers for it I wasn't sure what to think. Big robots, fighting big monsters is a story concept that is almost universally destined to be cheesy. I might watch anime for some of that sort of thing, but I'm not sure what I get out of that form of entertainment is about it being a form of quality entertainment. I'm also not sure that sort of thing is what your average movie goer is going to be looking for in a movie.

With that said I thought it might be entertaining, and the sort of thing I might personally like despite it's sure thematic misfire. I did hear it was getting surprisingly well reviewed in some circles, but entered the theater with "realistic expectations." Well my expectations were way lower that what I think the movie deserves. For all that potential cheese I felt they somehow did the robots vs monsters genre proud, and I totally enjoyed it.

I somewhat disagree with the notion that the story wasn't all that deep. For what it was I think it did better at delivering a decent story line than it should have, and if it didn't people wouldn't be saying the same nice things about it. They would be saying "yup. It's monsters verses giant robots. What did you expect?" They didn't break any ground with story, but they did use a lot of effective mechanics that made it feel more well rounded than I expected. I was actually a bit surprised there was as much story as there was, and that it was delivered as well as it was. It could have been so much more shallow, and I know I have personally seen far worse.

Like food there are all kinds of movies, and I think this movie was extremely well balance for the kind of experience it intending to be. I actually surprised to say it, but I'm positive I will see it again, and I might even buy it when it hits the stores which isn't something I normally do.

If someone has any interest in over the top visual cinema then they should give it a try, and do so in the theater because that's where big robots and big monsters belong.

I kind of got put off from seeing it when I saw one of the commercials claiming it was "This generation's Star Wars!". That kind of over the top hype usually spells trouble.

But, based on what I'm reading here, I may have to give it a view once it hits rental status.

You realize last generations Star Wars was The Phantom Menace and its sequels, right? That's not over the top hype.

Wait I thought Avatar was the next Star Wars? Or was it Battleship?

No wait, Prometheus, or was that this gens Blade Runner? Or was that AI? No, No, I'm thinking of Gattaca!

Hold on wait, wasn't Gattaca the old school space shooter, or is that Galaga? Which one had the giant worms? Am I thinking of Dune, Centipede, or Tremors?

Hmmmm, well either way I think all of them had Kevin Bacon.

This one is going in the wait for it to be on the movie channels. The Transformers movies and all the other godawful mech movies have really soured me on the mech movies. Can we get some Sci-Fi or Fantasy movies that don't involve monsters or mechs? And before that can we get rid of the spoiled kid that talks back to his stupid parents. I would really like to see one of those kids get the belt.

I think the mentioned movies were a tad better than this one.

Well, I definitely liked PR better than the Transformers flicks. Those were mostly horrible, as far as I'm concerned.

You just where SO on the right track of (some) good movies, but then you had to mention Dune and Tremors (which by the way ain`t even close to being alike) in the same sentence. However, every one mentioned, except Tremors and Avatar, still makes me get goosebumps... So I really hope that PR does the same trick, but I think I can dream on that one.

Only(!?!) problem with these movies are the perverse use of the horizontal light... They really want me to cringe my eyes away when something interesting happens.

I loved Tremors! Really! The sequels were shit but the original was great drive-in movie fun. Dune was beyond crap which is sad because it actually looked really cool.

Well, I don`t think Tremors where totally crap. We just have to agree that our taste is like our but :P
