Relax guys. They're starting off with "The Phantom Menace" with further releases to follow depending "on the pace of the conversion effort". Meaning by the time they've milked the three crap prequels, everyone will be so fed up that converting the originial trilogy will be financially unviable.

Titanium: Or at least make the "I'm gonna shoot you from half a meter away and miss" a better shot.

Shortest remastering of a trilogy ever!
I'm pretty sure it could be fixed with some careful editing in some freeware movie editing software. But I'm not quite that dedicated to the cause.
I think it is good move. Old trilogy aged pretty bad and looks horrible. Making it 3d properly of course will make those movies watchable at least.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: Why do people care? It's not like you have to see it.
Kinda what I was thinking. It's not like GL is going to take away all of the 2D versions and leave us with just the new 3D attempt. I don't see the point of being upset by it.
What he should be doing is passing the franchise off to someone with more creativity to do a reimagination of all 6 episodes. Barring that, he should think of adapting EU stuff into films. Way more interesting.
I've understood, that the HD transfers of the movies would be coming in 2011 or so.

But anyways, I wouldn't mind if Lucas did some major tweaking on the Phantom Menace, which is the only SW prequel I have major issues with. He could remove most of the Gungans, Jar Jar, edit the dull pod race scene, heavily alter the Anakin scenes in Tatoiine and so on.

I love the first 15 minutes or so of that movie, and it has a load of cool stuff in it, but it's also very poorly constructed in other areas.
I would rather he just deleted phantom menace it started well first 5 mins then by the end you felt like you wanted to throw up. The 2nd and 3rd films in the new trilogy i found where more like it less child like and more action.

Mind you the original trilogy will forever hold a special place in my heart. The remastered versions well the Han blaster thing was bad, the stepping on Jabba the hut tail wtf was that and oh yeah the ewok song at the end of return of the jedi should not exist but apart from that i liked most of the changes.

The only thing i would love to see in 3d is the battle of hoth one of the best battles ever. Put in some more footage of the AT-AT blasting the rebel base i would pay for that all in 3D as for the rest keep it as it is.

Someone did this. Look up "The Phantom Edit"

Tyler62092: But the vintage look of the originals adds to their perfection!

nondeplumage: I'd even take a re-release of a standard widescreen edition of the original trilogy. Just take the CGI away!
Same here... I hate the newer movies and I hate the CGI in the old movies. Star Wars to me was always about, amongst other things, a real and run-down looking universe. The flash polish of the newer stuff just runs completely contradictory to that.

Exactly, in a way it adds to the atmosphere of war torn galaxies and stuff.
I'd much rather listen to Weird Al Yankovic's "The Saga Begins" over and over and over and over than have to watch the atrocity on mankind that was Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace again, *NOW IN 3D!*

Meh. Who cares?

The Star Wars franchise started its death rattle with Return of the Jedi and completely toppled into the grave with the release of the Phantom Menace. Lucas can't possibly do any more harm to it that he already has.
There is no stopping Lucas, he seems intent on completely ruining his own creation and won't listen to anything the fans want.

All the fans actually want is the original trilogy with no new edits, a few integrated CGI's to clean up the old model work (The Falcon leaving the Death Star for example) and the movies remastered in HD. Thats it.

I'd even take it without any CGI at all.

They're coming out Blu-ray next year, all six movies. Then after the 3D release he wants to let them out on 3D release for 3D televisions.

How long can you milk something for? Disney knows how to do it right; lock that shit up and release it once every 10 years or so, as is but for the latest format, and people will eat it up.
