News has started popping up on the net that the owner of GSC (the studio that makes the Stalker games) walked in this morning and told them he was closing the studio >.>

A tweet calling this a baseless rumor was deleted less than a minute after it was posted... things are a happenin'

EDIT: So it's true, the studio has been closed and the game has been cancelled.

STALKER is an excellent series. Its only problem was that, other than SoC, it had annoying DRM in CoP and CS.

Sergei apparently stated he was closing it for "personal" reasons..

That's very bad news. I still haven't played CoP, but SoC was such a fantastic game.

Damn! Stalker SoC was one of the best games I ever played.

Well, I think I can officially say that I now have 0 interest in any new games, barring Frictional Games making an announcement. The STALKER series was the one shining gem in the commercial game industry, and the only contemprary FPS series that I would rank alongside the classics.

So sad, because CoP was just shy of being the perfect STALKER game, and I was hoping that the next entry would finally do everything right and be my favorite game ever.

A sad day Stalker was an enjoyable if flawed game and there was high hopes for the sequel which we will probably now never see sniff sniff.

So a DRM free patch for CoP is out of the question then? I bought the game knowing that it had Starforce hoping that it would be patched out like with the 2 previous games =/
