can you specify please?

I only played SOC and only played it to red Forest (never got in tough) shame really. It is on top of my list to replay from beginning to end when I get a brand new comp.
Really sad. The Stalker games were all that the bethesda Fallout games werent. Engaging, atmospheric, and real open ended RPGs. But was it critical to them to get on consoles on the sequel? Does this say that if first person games dont get on consoles they're doomed to fail?
OTOH, a mediocre game developer like Bethesda gets away with releasing buggy console ports of their games, which require massive rewriting, and theyre up to their butts in cashflow. Something's really f*ed up with the games industry.

jefequeso: CS really isn't bad. It still has some really awesome moments (the Red Forest comes to mind). It's the weakest in the series, but it's still most certainly worth a play.

StingingVelvet: Does it matter story-wise if I play CoP and then maybe CS later on?

It's kind of a moot point for now though, I won't be playing any modern games all next year and I don't have time to start a STALKER before I leave.
No, that will be perfectly fine. CS is a prequel anyway.

Fraction territory gameplay definitely, because it's only done in one map and random generated jobs to get some money, because those lead nowhere. The emissions are also quite basic, every NPC just disappears while one occurs. And there are probably other things I don't recall.

Now that I think of it, maybe mods can help make the game much better than how I remember it. I didn't use mods for CS so I cannot help you there though, but it sure is worth checking around for recommendations.
Oh come on, can't be true. :(

a great series like STALKER be cancelled? It sold more than 4 million copies as a series, I hope a bigger publisher picks it up.
official GSC twitter says an official statement will be on Monday.

I bet they sell to someone else. I got 5 virtual dollars on this, who's in?

Oh GSC is dead, sure. But they might sell the IP and dev staff to another company, who picks up development. Deep Silver would be a good option I would guess.

MichaelPalin: You have to be a pretty hardcore S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan (you know, the kind that writes all the dots, :P) to play all through CS. It leaves some gameplay elements half-developed, there is very little incentive to backtrack and the last part of the game is batshit difficult. My recommendation is that you play CS first (because it's always better to leave the best part for the end), but stop playing it if you get too frustrated and then play CoP and never look back. There is no real need to get burned by CS.
CS was the first STALKER game I ever played, and its what made me fall in love with the series. It's the worst STALKER game, but it's still a pretty good game. Minus the horrific number of bugs, that is.
So it seems they pulled a GOG and it was all a lie:

Just finish the game already instead of making these silly pranks.

Not necessarily a prank, maybe they found an investor. The closure sounded genuine enough.

Awesome. Recently started playing STALKER COP and it seems like a good series. Glad to see there will be more.
