Might get some flak for this but i think that Kotor 1 and 2 are better than any of the Star Wars movies, i just think they're alot more mature, have better characters, they have better stories, and they go deeper into the lore.

I know its not really good to compare em seeing as its movies vs gamea and the games are alot longer but i just feel Bioware and Obsidian really nailed the Star Wars universe better than Lucas Arts themselves

I'm not going to give you flak even though you are obviously totally insane. :D
Somebody probably feels like that.
I don't though
high rated
Star Wars was a space opera series for kids. Criticizing them for not being "mature" is kind of missing the point, and criticizing them for not spending their limited screen time delving into "lore" that's completely unnecessary to the plot is really missing the point.

I did like KOTOR though, even if its combat system was kind of boring.

With all do respect to you and with apologies to Eddie Izzard, I would imagine the reason you aren't so fond of the movies is because ALL of the bad guys are English. Am I wrong? Even Vader speaks with an English accent, and he voiced by someone from Michigan! And yes I know I made this exact argument in a similar thread a few days ago. Cut me some slack, I'm fresh out of new material.
BadDecissions summed it up really - Star Wars the original 3 films (and those latter 3) were always aimed at being a casual space opera style of film. It wasn't trying to be the next Godfather or a heavy intense operatic affair. It was a fun adventure through space and whilst it had some darker moments it was generally evenly mooded (I don't want to say light hearted because its not - I would argue that that is the domain of the newest 3 films - all too much so for the first of the three newest).

The KOTOR games were pitched to a more matured audience - the older original fans of the SW movies who grew up a bit more and needed something with a little more teeth to sink into. That said I would argue that whilst KOTOR 2 is good its unfinished state sadly left it flopping at the finish line upon some very cheesy and poor story building (esp after the Chrone character and a darth lord flying a freaking dead ship by the will of the force through space).

Also don't forget that games and books often have a lot more time to really sink their teeth into dialogue and story building (games can also bolster themselves with loads of background lore content if the developers want to).

I actually also prefer the KOTOR games to the movies, even if I can only say it's because I spend consistently more time with them than the movies (You can argue games versus movies in that respect though, interactive versus passive entertainment, length, ect ect.)

That said, I find it hard to be evil in the first game. You miss out quickly on a very good character, you make the game harder than it needs to be in a few situations (Using violent means as opposed to diplomatic solutions with more rewards) and it's just morally difficult as a gamer in some cases, such as the choices given on the Wookie planet especially and with your own partners.

The second game makes it much easier to be evil and menacing without having the moral drawbacks, because you won't be wrecking your own characters and pathway at the same time. Similar rewards, pathways, options and abilities, not to mention you get a better character going the evil route and some early bonuses in fighting when you consider Force Shout tree and Force Lightning tree.
You know there was a time I actually liked the Prequels, I never thought they were bad. Until the internet showed me the light and I saw it again (I own the DVDs) and I was like........Ergh I will never look at the Prequels the same way again, thanks alot internet.

And yes the Original Trilogy was awesome.

The rest of the people in the thread should be made aware that I am sitting here wearing a Mos Eisley Cantina hat. They are selling on Amazon for $25!
KotOR is somewhat simple but good. KotOR 2 is terrible.

For a more mature Star Wars with deeper lore, you should read the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn:

Heir to the Empire (1991)
Dark Force Rising (1992)
The Last Command (1993)

From what I recall, these reinvigorated the franchise and kicked the Star Wars "Expanded Universe" into high gear. Sadly much of what came after is subpar.
I thought KotOR was pretty boring, honestly.

Then again I'm not really a Star Wars fan, just an Empire Strikes Back fan.
Honnestly, I don't dig the movies so much, I find the background meh, the games got their fun right though. However nothing immersive whatsoever.

So I'm not a Star Wars fan, neither an Empire strikes back fan, but definitely an ewok-hater.
i consider them different , kotor takes place in the old republic and movie is thousand years later, the lore didnt exist during the time of the movie, a lot of contribution went into making star wars expanded universe into a history of living breathing legend
and since disney got a hold of em, i wonder if i will see simba instead of vader, (look i am your father)

I had the same reaction to this thread and while I've never been able to bypass the damn crashes on either my XP or Win7 systems I too felt the combat system was a little dull.
