There are many new and old games that I have no interested in playing, but I enjoy listening to their soundtracks. Finding and buying those game soundtracks (especially old soundtracks) is often difficult.

For examples: I am not interested in playing Total Annihilation and Total Annihilation: Kingdoms. I saw their gameplay videos on YouTube, and I went "meh, I'd pass." However, I noticed their soundtracks are outstanding. I would love to just buy their soundtracks and not the games.

I think it would be a great idea if GOG can get into the selling game soundtracks business. GOG can even offer soundtracks of games that it do not have (if GOG can somehow make such arrangements.) Also, GOG can maybe let us listen to samples of soundtracks.

Well, you could see it this way: GOG is currently selling the soundtracks for TA and TA:K for 2.99USD each, and they also come with the games for free! :P

Seriously, the idea is interesting, but, as a consumer, considering the already low prices on GOG, they would have to sell them at 1-2USD or something like that.
You (generic "you") could as well spend a few bucks more and get the complete package. You never know, maybe one day you'll get the itch and want to play the games too.

Still, the idea is worth considering.

I may actually buy the games just to get their soundtracks - because they are on sale for $2.99 each right now. However, if they are priced at $4.99 each, I would not pay $10 to get both soundtracks.

Also, GOG can maybe let us listen to samples of soundtracks. A lot of awful games have nice soundtracks. If we can sample the soundtracks, we won't miss out on good soundtracks on awful games.

I bought a lot of great movie soundtracks of awful movies from Amazon - because I can sample them on Amazon. However, Amazon does not really sell or carry game soundtracks. In fact, there is not any place that really sells or carries game soundtracks.

Yes, except that at $5.99 or $9.99 you're better off just buying the game than you would if you were buying the soundtrack. Plus, there are probably games in the catalog where the soundtrack isn't licensed for sale separately. A bit like Quake's soundtrack being licensed for the game and being missing in the steam release.

$9.99 is way too much to pay if I only want the soundtracks and not the game. I am not "better off" by just buying the games, especially if the games are awful or uninteresting. At that price, I would rather just torrent the soundtracks.

The point is: maybe GOG can work out licensing agreements to just offer the soundtracks.

$9.99 is more or less the going rate for a CD, unless you go for a second hand.

If you can rationalize piracy that easily, I don't see any reason why GOG should offer the option because it's not clear that they can count on making any money off the deal.
I don't think it's a good idea

GOG should add bonus materials to games

not sell "bonus materials"

The soundtracks are a bonus. If you don't want the game then just download the thing.
I think they not hold the rights for soundtrack in certain game. Like Realms of Arkania, if i'm not mistaken the soundtrack is not complete and the first game forced to use MIDI as BGM rather than CD audio due to publisher rights. I think soundtrack served better as extra goodies, i don't want GoG to utilize their resource for some legal works in order to acquired certain soundtrack, they better stick to their main business. And i'm not sure if it is legal for selling these soundtrack. Imagine how many people will be pissed if those Witcher and Witcher 2 soundtrack available separately.
A good idea. If the soundtracks were sold for a lower price than the games themselves were they could sell a lot. As with GOG, the main competitor would probably be piracy.

CD project should make a separate and smaller team for this. I'm not sure how big the potential revenue for this is, but if the price was small enough and you could listen to it in advance, I think there would be a lot of customers. Personally I use game soundtracks as background music for other games since I often get tired of hearing the same music over again. I don't care to hunt down a CD version of music that I just use as background music.Good old game soundtracks - a good idea.

I've probably spent more money on GOG than I should have, seeing as I've probably only played half the games (at all, or for more than "a 15 minute feel"), in part because I wish to support the concept (as well as the great job those behind GOG do). But buying soundtracks separately? Not very likely.

Sure, there are plenty of nice soundtracks, and at some point I even bought a cd (or was it a casette tape?) of C64 music by Rob Hubbard (I'm terrible at remembering names, but I remember his even after all these years), but buying just the soundtrack doesn't really make much sense to me - especially when the rest of the game's atmosphere is usually just as big a part of "the (nostalgic) experience" as the music.

Branching off from your core business strategy isn't always a wise move either, and it'd be a net loss if offering soundtracks separately in some way hurt the "getting good old games Vista/Win7 ready & DRM free" part of the business. It all depends on how easy it'd be to do this, but I'd think they'd have to re-negotiate a lot of closed deals to be allowed to sell bonus content separately.

There's also the potential problem that setting a price on bonus content would drive up the prices on the whole package. Right now they're just freebies/incentives to buy, but if they become products themselves.. And, of course, sooner or later people would start complaining about having to buy a game at "full price" when they already have bought the soundtrack etc.
Necro'd as I was wondering about this, given that many new games nowadays sell soundtracks separately.
