Well they probably thought given the age of the games most users on steam will wait till they are on sale so they probably inflated the price so they could make a bit more.

Anyway, it might be to early to say anything, but if you are right then there should now soon be very few indies being released on steam, - as many of the greenlit titles are still far from being published. And if I am right then there will be a steady flow :)

Looks like they added Tomb Raider Collection now.

$15 on a 75% sale. Maybe by the Summer sale I guess, doubt they'll go 75% this Xmas.

Just also noticed that they have released Soul Reaver 1&2 and also LoK Defiance at £6.99 which works out at around the $9.99 mark

I think what is happening is GOG are getting exclusive rerelease then a few months down the line the games land wherever Square Enix release their games. Similar in the way the consoles get timed exclusive DLC for certain games (Dragonborn as an example is out on 360 but lands on PS3 & PC beginning next year)

It's quite possible considering the same seems to have happened with the D&D games.

I guess in the long run the old games will spread to the other retailers as more and more publishers pick up on it in their dealings with GOG. At least it'll be thanks to GOG we get more options then, but if this picks up then it seems their oldies advantage will become a temporary one.

Exactly. So much for mere old games being the bread and butter of GOG business, as others are picking up on it too.

Consider what a ruckus it always caused among some GOG forum members if GOG dared to release a game that was already available on some other sites (like Steam), I'm surprised these same people don't rush now to Steam forums to complain that Steam should release only games not released before on other sites (like GOG). ;^P

I'm sure you think you have some 'quip' in there somewhere but I'm talking about GOGs compatibility advantage. It's not about others picking it up, it's about others spreading GOG's advantage around.

There's also nothing specific about what you said if you're relating that to me since it depends entirely on the context in which games are released here that are already in other places (like Steam)
If "new" games then I'm sure I raised the issue that I prefer GOG to focus on old games first and foremost, which is a focus I think will become less and less over time sadly.
If 'Indie' Games, then I'm sure I'll have mentioned it being available in bundles already (which was the case for many of their initial releases), or that most Indie games are already DRM free anyway so it would be nicer to see GOG's effort used for games that aren't.

Without context you're really just not making a point. I highly doubt I ever complained about a game releasing here "when it's already on Steam", unless it's in the context of the above or something similar. But I'm sure that's how you prefer to remember it since you seem to have quite the hardon for me lately :)

I'm not convinced that other distributors will care about long-term compatibility. GOG makes it their job to ensure games work, as does DotEmu, but Steam and the rest leave it to the developers to figure these things out. They are already selling some older games that have known issues on newer versions of Windows.

Point being that it seems like these are adapted GOG versions, just like the Gamersgate D&D collection is from adapted GOG versions as well. It could well be part of the contract. In which case it could simply be that if it's ever needed to update the compatibility, GOG will do that for their own site, and then the publishers will probably have the same right to spread those files to other retailers again to update those as well.

If that's the case then it's really just a matter of time.

I like GoG i find their stuff very almost on the illegal side i know a guy thatw as workin with gog and all they do is download their games from abandonwarez and other rom sites then they compile them into dosbox format and then sell them packed already. when the fact is all you have to do is download dosbox yourself or whatever emulator and read a few guides and get the games free yourself. Not saying to do that but thats pretty much what GoG does they pirate half their old crap and thats legal how?
