I Watch Let's play all the time, Yes sometimes i watch a let's play and then won't buy it (amnesia dark descent, Dead space 2) Because i'm too scared to play it or i've seen all of it already. Not to mention i watch LPs of games i never intend buying anyway like Fable 3 or Bulletstorm.

However i also watch let's play and end up buying the game because it looks great and there are various game series i bought that i probably wouldn't even have know much about but now i do due to watching lets plays of them. I also intend to buy L.A Noire and Two Worlds 2 because i saw let's plays of them.

In my case watching these videos has resulted in me buying more games than not buying them because i saw the lets play on youtube so i think this law is rather pathetic Tbh.

The simple fix is a clause in the TOS that sates gameplay video are allowed. Mojang the makers of Minecraft already plan to add it into there TOS if this bil passes negating the issue.

US forgets about one thing. This is internet. They will ban it in US, we will broadcast gameplay videos in Mexico or Thailand.

Aside from videogames this could seriously affect the voice acting community as well, since I'm sure fandubs and machinimas would easily be struck down with the wording that is used. And youtube poops would be pretty much nonexistent as well.

Not to mention the movie reviewers.

The bill will likely not passed, mainly beclaues it would conflict with things already in place.

IT is COMPLETELY legal to use tid bits of copyright material in reviews/paradoies, etc.

As of now without permission that is. This law could make it to where you'd need permission if you use copyrighted material in a parody or review that is electronically distributed.

That's just the beginning...they have a proposed internet ID to track everything we do online and they already do warrantless wiretaps and warrantless surveillance

i bought terraria because of Total biscuit playing the game and posting a video of it.
i also watch minecraft videos of lets play a game i would never purchase... but after watching few hours i am slightly more eager to do that.

im pretty sure the opposite is true. people who watch lets play videos are more interested in buying said game.

I'd like to try again. Please read the bill itself, especially the conditions that it requires in terms of the losses caused to the company. These can't be subjective losses like "It might have caused people to not like the game", it has to be actual measurable cost to the rights holder. Yes, I know, "they'll say something evil and evil will be done". That's a good counter, I can't really come back to that, other than to say "The courts will say something good in response and good will be done".

This bill is nothing to do with gaming. Look at the changes they've made to include "Or public performances". They're after people that post songs, music videos, or concert performances. Their motivation is to frighten the content publishers like youtube into policing more.

One day someone may attempt to apply it to gaming. If / When this happens, I am confident it would be shot down. There just isn't the room in this to say that showing a clip of someone playing a game is damaging sales through the abuse of the copyright.

If the games companies were really so bothered about LP or other services, they'd go after them right now. Their copyright is already enforceable, they can already seek damages for violation of it. This isn't about that.
