Is there anywhere to buy it DRM free? All i see is Steam and some sellers on Amazon selling the retail copy for a ridiculous $80+. Apparently it used to be on DotEmu but it's seems to be gone now as the buy button is no longer there. Or even better, does anyone have news about it coming to GOG.com perhaps?

This is my first thread on this site, so go easy on me :p. Oh, and hi! I love this site so far. I've recently learned about DRM and decided to not buy anything with DRM anymore, no matter how badly i want to play it. And that includes Steam now as well. Even though it might be too late on that front as i already have 100s of games on Steam... *sigh*. So as a measure, if i can't make a backup copy on a DVD i don't buy it. You might call it being a little excessive, but i'd rather know my games are secure should something go wrong.

Sorry about the Off topic introduction there, just wanted to say hi :). Anyways, if i am missing a place to get Vampire Bloodlines DRM free please point it out to me. Or maybe it's still for sale at DotEmu but i am just missing something? Though i'm thinking the reason it's gone is some kind of publishing issue.
No idea, but welcome to the site.

Personally I'm glad I didn't shed my copy of it during my great purge, it seems to be quite a valuable thing.

Have you played it before? I'm curious as to whether you wish to remember it, or experience it?
nvm...

Wonder why they can't sell it now? That's what GOG should do tho, keep the gamecard and just take the buy button down.

Hi and welcome! A word of advice, don't limit yourself like that. This site is perfect for long term archiving and for old games but if you really want a game that's relatively cheap that's not here why not go for it? ;)

Used copies has a high, but still reasonable price, it is just the new copies that costs that much.
The disc version just uses SafeDisc, which is one of the less intrusive DRMs. It is a simple disc check.
Welcome to GOG. No need to apologize for anything. My guess is it will come to GOG... eventually. I think the only reason why Activision isn't selling it here is because of its price point on other sites. Once it has a permanent price drop down to $10 or so, that's when we'll see it here.

The thing that has surprised me is that despite being willing to sell out to Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, GOG hasn't introduced this game at a higher price point.
It seems Dotemu lost all Activision games. As far as I remember that was only Bloodlines and the Gabriel Knight games, but still a little surprise they were removed. Not good for Dotemu, especially since the last release were only ports to mobile devices and more "unknown" games from Nordic Games.

I would say maybe you should mail Dotemu and ask them if there is a chance to see in the catalog again.

Edit: And yes, they lost Activision because the contract ended. Postings are in french, the relevant is the second one: http://www.dotemu.com/en/forums/international/french-corner/jeux-disparus#new

Music related licensing issues, maybe?

Hello Nad,

In fact, Gabriel Knight is no longer available on DotEmu yet for the simple reason that the contract allows us to distribute legally has come to an end. So we had to remove them.

New titles are planned, for example, we added yesterday Kingdom The Far Reaches Smile

See you soon!
Damn. I wonder why they've decided not to renew. I'm sure DotEmu has sold a decent number before.

I think the disc isn't even required for playing - at least not if you install the unofficial patch, which is highly recommended anyway. I bought the disc for 2.49€ some years ago, and I only need it when I install the game.

Good point. There are lots of artists involved - if the publishers didn't think very far ahead when making the contracts, then a re-release of the game could be contested by every single one of those artists.

The game is being sold on steam though, so that does not seem to be the issue
