I want Starbound on GOG, it's really as simple as that :)

If you haven't heard of it, it's basically a sort of sequel to Terraria (made by different folks) and looks like 10 times the game Terraria was, and Terraria was awesome.

So.....I'm starting a topic to try to get some of you to send an email to Chucklefish the developer asking them to submit Starbound to GOG (they may have already done so, who knows, but an email campaign can't help even if it's just to let them know there's a big audience for their game :)

I mean, come on, almost everything about this game is RANDOM. Can you imagine the replayability of a game like that.

My 2-cents. All sandbox games like this tends to get updates weekly in the first release periods. I prefer to have them on a system where updates are handled much more user-friendly than gOg's, unless it comes with an self auto-update feature-dash-launcher I see little reason to get it here.

Fine if you want it here, but I am not going to participate in any campaign to do so. I will most likely get this game, but I think it will be on Desura or Steam.

Updates are done by GOG as soon as a developer submits them to them, just like on any other service.

I don't see the problem. And... as many of us here don't buy games on Steam or Desura, I would think it would be a good idea to have the game here, particularly as I have a feeling this one is going to be a HUGE seller. It could benefit GOG quite nicely :)

A non-client based storefront (if you want to call it that). It's DRM-free there too, which is always a plus. I voted on this title the day before yesterday and hope to see it here when it's done.

And I will not get it from HS for the same reasons :) I am spoiled by now. I like auto-updates and not need to manually download and install them. It is fine when there is 1 or 2 updates a year, but if it is weekly or several monthly will just annoy me. And that is my opinion.

Well, what I'm saying is that if the devs expect their customers to do a billion initial updates you'd think they'd choose a starting platform more in-line with their needs (Desura, Steam) rather than the Humble Store of all places.

As someone who owns FTL on GOG, I dearly wished I had the Steam version instead in the first few weeks, particularly when every patch came out a week after Steam's did, and just threw up an error message when run. The turnaround time for patches here is... not great, and the fact that you often have to redownload the entire installer is a pain for those of us stuck with bandwidth caps (Retro City Rampage is small at least, but I have zero interest in redownloading a gigabyte of Giana Sisters for bug fixes and 1 new level).

So no, I don't think it's just like every service at all. I'm all for seeing Starbound here as the more places the better, but I'll buy it at the Humble Store for sure.

I am a little wary for now. I have not seen a sandbox survival game not receiving steady updates, heck Minecraft still receives monthly updates. Terraria do not receive so many updates now, but in the beginning there were quite a lot. People expect these games to evolve and expand after release.

(and I remember when pHr00t stopped updating 3079 because he felt it was finished and started working on 3089, people complained....)

Actually, Humble Store is probably the best option. You get a Steam key to use during the frequent patching period, and a DRM free back-up once the patch process settles down.

Thanks for that (didn't see we already had one :) -- edited my original post to add it. I know -- crazy it's on the Humble Store -- what a pain in the rear that will be for updates :)

I'm holding off doing anything until I see if GOG gets it.

BTW, they're doing very well on their Kickstarter-style campaign (they're raising money with a backers campaign on their website instead of on Kickstarter -- smart I think). They've already raised over $676,000 for Starbound and passed quite a few Stretch Goals.
