Roman5: So Once again, GOG uses "Social Media" and does not notify of anything on it's own website
avatar
SimpleUser: True - so its only the twits that get the thanks!
My sentiments exactly! Lol!

Aningan: This really is the kind of thing that is by far best suited for Twitter. I mean come on! You want a front page announcement that there will be no promo this weekend??
avatar
JaqFrost: Well no, but how about saying something to the effect of 'first promo of the year on such-and-such-a-date' *Kermit-like flail*? Not all of us use twitter and like people are saying, the community is here.
I'd say the vast majority of GOG users DON'T use twitter.

I think it's a good tool as far as getting the word out about GOG though, especially amongst the generation who have a biological need to feel the Earth revolves around them.

Ubivis: A bird tweeted from the trees: "Our 2012 DRM-Free Holiday Sale was our biggest so far--thanks to all of you! New games & new promos coming next week"
Nice.

This too.

I'm just going to repeat what I said in a previous post:

What are you basing that statement on?
GOG has 49,263 follower on Facebook and 35,798 on Twitter. Do you feel the forums have that many people? I don't.
avatar
Aningan: Just open Facebook to look at some other stuff and boom, GOG announcement in your face!
avatar
Wishbone: And what about those of us who don't live our lives on Facebook?

The fact of the matter is, if you want to know what's going on with GOG, the one place you certainly won't find out is anywhere on GOG.com. You can't tell me you think that's a sensible state of affairs?
Like I already said it 2 posts higher. That sentence was only an explanation of how it works, not that you should use Facebook. I don't advocate the use of it.

There is a difference between following on twitter/facebook and actively participating in a forum. - Ever heard of the 1% rule?

Don't underestimate the power of the lurkers. ^^ (can't even estimate how many are out there just reading posts)

Are there 500 active users on the forum? 500 would be the 1% of the 50k Facebook users. By active I mean regularly posting as the 1% rule refers to them. Like I said in a previous post, I visit and post regularly on the GOG forums. Based on my impression there aren't 500 active users. I just don't see 50k lurkers.

So I say to you, don't overestimate the power of the lurkers.
Yay, let's complain about them not announcing such minor thing here and then let's wait for another time, when we will complain about GOG announcing unimportant things here.

I can't really interpret that in any other way than that you are in fact advocating the use of social media.

gameon: Nice to meet you too :)
You guys should start up a website so that people who hate social networking can keep in touch with each other!

That actually wouldn't interest me, lol.

For GOG maybe. It's a smart thing to do. But I'm not advocating that you use it. Unless every bit of "news" regarding GOG is that important to you. If you can call the lack of a promo news.

But even then I wouldn't recommend creating social media accounts. For one thing, like gameon said, things from social media reach the forums anyway (in one form or another), and another thing, you can view the GOG social accounts without you having one of your own.

uhm...People want to know that kind of stuff you know, so they can manage the money they have on their cards and the planning for what purchases they have to do.

If you live above an ATM, and can deal with that stuff instantly, that's fine.

I don't ask for a new headline on the front page saying "HEY GOGERS! NO PROMO FOR YOU TODAY!" (even though it would be really funny). I actually don't even ask for a topic in the forums. All i wanted was to get my question answered. If the GOG.staff gets tired of those threads, they could post a thread about it here in the forums.
Stuff I know? I haven't even read it on twitter until it was posted here.

But often you hear people here whining about GOG only posting soemthing on FB/twitter and other time you see a lot of mocking of GOG about announcing any insignificant triviality.
I actually agree with you and it wasn't aimed against you. GOG staffer easily could reply here, stating there will be nothing, but neither do I blame them for not doing so.

But this is something that doesn't need any confirmation, IMO, it would confirm or disprove itself very soon.

gameon: If others are like me, they want nothing to do with social network sites, and will avoid them at all costs. So they would miss information such as this.

Novotnus: It looks like I'm not the last person like that in the world!
No where near the last person.

Vitek: Stuff I know? I haven't even read it on twitter until it was posted here.
lol! I should have put a "comma" there. That "you know" was...ok my English sucks, so let me explain how i meant it :

"You know, 80 people died in Russia this year from the cold. "

it was this kind of "you know"! :p

Sorry for bringing this up, and thanks to turnip and others for the answers!
