Eador. Masters of the Broken World, Etherlords 1&2, Blitzkrieg Anthology 1&2, and more 50% off!

If USSR still existed we're pretty sure its economy could largely depend on game development. There are so many talented people in Russia and former Soviet republics, dedicated to creating complex and solid games, that if the Soviet Union still existed this part of industry could become huge--if only the communists in charge were actually interested in economic development. Let's play a little make believe: imagine a Soviet Empire built on the foundation of gamedev studios, producing top-quality strategy games. If it was preparing to take over the world, the first step would surely be a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/soviet_strategy_strike_260713]Soviet Strategy Strike. Today, we offer you a taste of the imaginary Soviet Strategic Total Warfare, with a 50% discount!

Eador. Masters of the Broken World is one of the biggest, toughest, and most extensive turn-based strategy games in history. It takes all the complexity you would expect from a 4X game (that is: eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate), adds some extra challenge, extends the gameworld beyond measure, and finishes off the mixture with some top-notch dreamy graphics. The game faced some issues upon its release, but ever since, the developers worked towards squishing all the bugs and implementing even more features. This is the first time you can get the game 50% off on GOG.com. At $9.99 this game quite probably the best value for your money, when it comes to hardcore turn-based strategic gameplay!

If fantasy isn't your thing, you can still get your share of turn-based goodness mixed with real-time gameplay in a captivating Sci-Fi setting. In Altar Interactive's UFO series you'll be commanding a squad of special force operatives facing alien menace in tactical combat. Drawing inspiration from Microprose original X-Com games, those titles deliver their very own variety of terrifying extra terrestrial threat. Witness the entire interplanetary conflict from the first days of the invasion to the final strike against the aliens in three gripping iterations. You can get UFO: Aftermath for only $2.99, while UFO: Aftershock, and the concluding UFO: Afterlight are available for only $3.99 each. Don't miss your chance to defend the Earth!

That's but a small sample of what game the full Soviet Strategy Strike delivers 50% off. Direct yourself to the promo page, for the full varied and robust offer! The promo lasts until Tuesday, July 30, at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

Tranquil.Suit: Damn, I've been spoiled. -50% Just doesn't do it for me anymore.

But that may have something to do with my 150+ games backlog.

Heh, I'm not even planning to play all those games. I just look at my collection, close my eyes, and fantasize about playing them.

tinyE: We must share a brain. :P
I feel quite the same here, though I haven't completely lost hope to vanquish my backlog, even if it goes as far as the Game Boy Color & Nintendo 64 era.

...

Yeah I know... I'm mad.
Cossacks Anthology looks amazingly huge with 200 mission across 20 nations... is it safe to say Cossacks Antholoty is a better choice than American Conquest if I were to only get one or the other?

Being newer here I was curious about the weekly promos and did some searching, my perception is that 50% discounts are fairly newer/good. Some of the older sales seemed to be for things like 15% off. Although 50% seems to be the new "minimum" discount, it's still a good deal.

I'd go Cossacks 1st for sure but make sure to check out my earlier post on it. This game is HARD.

Lowest discount I recall seeing for a weekend promo was a 30% off for an activision rpgs back in 2011. 50% is much more usual, though higher discount isn't unheard of.
10%-20% is more usual for new releases and/or pre-orders though, and gem promos are usually at 60% off, though we have had 50% (and I think I recall a 40% off as well).

P1na: Do I want to pay 10$ for the new eador?

...

Nah. I'll need a better discount.
This is pretty much where I'm sitting. I wishlisted it as soon as it was announced, but the reviews say that it's basically a graphical update of Genesis, which I already have (though I haven't played it yet).

So, just Etherlords 2 for me this time around (somehow I had the first, but not the second), unless someone wants to try to convince me that better graphics are worth $10, hehe.

Eador: Genesis should keep you busy enough that you won't even need the second game for awhile and if the $10 is burning a hole in your wallet I would say grab Blitzkrieg and S2 if you don't have them already.

IAmSinistar: Will probably give a pass on the UFO series, though, even at these prices. The reviews just sound like the games would depress an X-Com fan like myself.
I think you should give the last two a try. The graphics are ugly and the real time combat takes some getting used to. But they feature a complex base building and research system, and the RPG stats of the soldiers is more than what many RPGs offer. The combat is pretty complex, too, once you learn all the possibilities.
Overall I was pretty surprised after all the bad press.

sparkierjonesz: any must buys here? i don't know much about these games
Cossacks, I'd say :)

It's known as one of the best RTS games ever made. It can be difficult but, as you get 3 games with a total of over 200 missions, it's literally months of gameplay -- for 3 bucks. Well worth it, I'd say. (And yes, I'm buying it myself before the end of the sale -- although I doubt I'll have time to play it until next year :)

EDIT:

Oh yes, and I've played a few missions in the first Cossacks game ages ago. Awesome awesome game and gorgeous graphics in all 3 games, especially for their age.

That's per mission mind you. :P
You know, I might give Etherlords a go this weekend. And Blitzkrieg.

LOL, that's what I thought :)

It's honestly why I've put off buying it until now as my bloody backlog is huge. But...I've promised myself, if I finish Settlers 6 before the sale ends on Tuesday (2 missions to go), I'll buy it. If not, it's going to have to wait until the next sale :)

Etherlords is an extremely fun game. I bought it in the summer sale and have only played about 3 hours so far, but really enjoyed what I had a chance to play. Recommend it.

That's a nice price, but do you get all the extras that GOG gives us with the Shiny Loot version?

Plus, GOG has been the leader in the DRM free movement. They only games I've bought from DotEmu are the games that aren't available here.
Just bought Eador: Master Of The Broken World. Hopefully there aren't too many bugs left and I like to see some money trickle down to smaller developers.

Out of interest to those who have bought it, in the artworks zip there is a picture titled Rogue.jpg what do you make of that, is that his arm or something else?
