System Shock 2 will not be 500.

Since XIII got removed, SS2 will be 499.
Wait, I've got it! SWAT 4 AND the missing "Quest" games.

tinyE: Someone told me Conquest Frontier Wars was coming out later this month. Does that already have a number assigned to it?
It's coming Jan 22nd, I believe.

At the rate of one game per update, that would be the 499th release, which some people have speculated could be the 500th release unless the schedule changed.
KillSwitch for #500

Second and more seriously.
Does anyone know all of the games that have been removed from GOG? I know two of them have returned. It would just be interesting (personally) to know.
well it(or they) may not end up being #500 but were getting some Bard's Tale Love..

Awesome news, but are the DOS versions playable? I seem to remember someone posting that the DOS versions were really buggy, maybe even to the point of gamestopping.

nah just Bards tale 3 but a fan fixed it, also keep in mind it could also be the same as the version on Steam which is the 2004 Bard's Tale with the Apple 2 GS versions of BT 1 and 2 and the Apple 2 version of BT 3 as bonuses.

Either version is fine with me as long as they work. I think the only version i've ever played was the NES port that FCI put out. (and FCI also did the NES port of Pool of Radiance)
Concerning Brian's Fargo tweet Bard's Tale seems like a likely candidate for 500th release

That would be somewhat anticlimactic. Don't get me wrong I loved Bard's Tale all the years back but I don't see it as special release. True, it would be instabuy for a lot of nostalgia driven nerds (myself included! duh!) but I doubt that many people who didn't own the game at the time would buy/enjoy it. On the other hand... I would enjoy it so why should I care? ;)

But it is doubtlessly one of the, you know, BIG titles from the past and it definitely should be here. As for me I’m in two minds about all those old-school RPGs. On the one hand I just hate dungeon crawling, finding all those keys/swiches, focus on fighting, lack of real story etc….On the other hand when I see those beautiful screenshots & manuals I usually end up by buying them :-)

One of the biggest to be more precise. I think we all agree here. But I'm still slightly concerned. Take any other RPG game from that era, like Might and Magic 1 and 2. And take anybody born 20 years ago. Can he actually enjoy those games? There must be some people like that, sure, but vast majority would just say WTF?! So it would be anticlimactic for them...
Anybody want some popcorn? :D
