Immortality is a big one. I think that's the ultimate expression of scientific human advancement. I also think it raises a lot of great questions: If you could live forever, would you? Would you stand 200 years of cubicle hell, or worse, management hell, just to live longer?

I've been thinking, as much as I want my integrated Iron Man suit, I really want things automated as well. I want my clothes to wash themselves. My food to make itself. All the things I'd rather not be doing to focus on the stuff I want to do, I want it automated.
Being the huge cyberpunk nerd that I am, I find it difficult when selecting augmentations because I keep thinking of Ghost in the Shell for all the technical details.

For example, my concern with the mechanical augmentations are that they lack feeling. The cyborg shells in GITS were designed to feel like human skin, in some cases better (extra sensation/feeling). I doubt this was a possibility in the Deus Ex Universe, as we can see from Jensen, Gunther, Navarre, Shea, etc. Their augs are pure machine, and I doubt they have any actual feeling. The issue with having mechanical augmentations like that is the lack of sensation. Imagine trying to pick up a beer can for the first time. You will either drop it or crush it. And even then, you will never have the actual sensation of touching the object.

As far as internal, I don't believe Deus Ex had anything like a cyberbrain, at least not described in game, so that's out. The infolink was just a built in receiver for the most part. Assuming that it would be possible to keep them from appearing too augmented, I would go for my eyes right off the bat. Perfect 20/20 vision, enhanced vision in low light conditions, potential IR/Thermal imaging....and hopefully it would be the most least-maintenance out of all of them. Internal organ replacements possible as well, but only to prolong life or battle disease.

Also, since we are on the topic, GITS also proved that all you can really hope to do is just extend your life longer with augmentations, you can't become immortal. The oldest person in the series that was specifically mentioned was the human trafficker in SAC, and she was 80 years old. While her body was full cyborg, her brain was still human, albeit modified with cybernetic enhancements. The brain will eventually degenerate, and hopefully Deus Ex wouldn't have a disease like cyberbrain sclerosis to potentially kill you. GITS represents the best case scenario, Deus Ex is far behind in technology compared to that universe, so even extending your life may not be possible.

*The only reason I compare Deus Ex to GITS so much is their similarities in setting and content.

WBGhiro: Balls of steel!
you actually can get them in real life...

literally speaking

eyes. i don't have terrible eyesight but not perfect either. i am in border between should wear glasses and its still alright.
We are Borg. Resistance is futile. We wish to improve ourselves. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service ours. You will be assimilated.
I want to shoot bats out of my eyes. Then I can make an emo band called I'm Crying Bats.

How would you cry :?
William Gibson anyone ? :<
I'm already 99.999% walking-talking perfection, so I think I'd just get a mole removed.

Well, with 99.999% of that perfection removed, what'd be left? I'd get that mole insured if I were you.
As much of my skeleton as possible plus some of the muscles in my lower body. Lets right a few wrongs as well as do it for the sake of badassery. The strength and extra durability that might come with it are but an after thought.

I'm imagining that the changes would still allow for some feeling of pain as an indication that somethings wrong but I'm sure there would be a list of routine checks on top of that.

Oh and along with that an enhanced immune system would be nice to help fight against disease and infection, which would be helpful if I'm going through so much surgery.

Adamantium skeleton + health regen aug + retractable claws... DOH!
The only sacred thing I recognize in this world is my own fucking body. I'm scared for a needle, just imagine how much I would shit myself at the simple idea of being "augmented" with machines in some horrible, horrible way.

No thanks, video games are nice and all but my body has everything in the right proportions right now (and I mean everything :-P) and don't want any "augmentation" at all....

By spitting, obviously :)
I am reminded of the card from the Shadowrun CCG, Titanium Johnson.
Augmented eyes, definitely. I have pretty terrible eyesight and have for basically all of my life (eye exams are fun when the doctor tells you that you're at the age when your already terrible eyesight is just going to get worse). Improved eyesight and maybe something neat like a night-vision toggle would be amazing. :D
My bank account :P

and for a more serious answer.... my brain. There's nothing particularly wrong with my brain but I think augmenting it would open up huge potential.
