Just curious :)

What do you find to be the most hair pulling, painstakingly hard game on GOG? And I'm talking about stable, more or less bug free games that aren't hard because of poor programming or testing. What game have you practically rage quit (or maybe you did) because of the difficulty?

Maybe like these guys? (warning: explicit language)

It's a trinity:
Jagged Alliance, Cossacks, and Dark Reign

Dark Reign? Really? I don't find that too hard...

Have yet to play the others.

:O You are my new best friend! I want you on speed dial! I'm actually in the middle of a few of titles right now but when I return to DR I want you in my back pocket; maybe I'll be able to get to the 2nd mission. I'm actually pretty good at RTS but that one just beats me senseless. A walkthrough would help but none seem to exist.

Divine Divinity at the end. The game all the way to the end is not too hard, but there is one enemy at the end that was completely unbeatable for me, and it turns out had quite a reputation as there were several threads of complaining and advice at Larian about this one enemy.

I rage quit both times. First time was over 10 years ago, second time was a little over a year ago. I still shake when I consider how many hours I put into that game only to get to that point and not have a snowball's chance in hell. Between the two playthroughs, I'm sure I tried literally hundreds of times to beat her, but never even came close. I mean not even anywhere close. I never got her health below half as far as I can remember. Had I come close I would've thought at least I had a chance, but never even close to beating her.

Then went to start it again about a week ago, and now the game has a sound issue (on my system at least) that makes it unplayable for me it's so bad. I'm guessing I'm never going to finish that game. It's too bad too, it was really a great, and I mean GREAT game, except for that one part. They over did the final enemy.
It's not so much that the games are difficult per se, but I am a very clumsy player and Volgarr, the Raiden Legacy games, and Cannon Fodder are too difficult for me to finish, due to no cheats and no state saving. Hopefully emulation technology will improve to the point where I can save-crawl my way to the end of these games. Cannon Fodder has this one mission with a vehicle and ramps that's just too annoying to keep trying, Raiden I can finish, but I can't reach those mission branches that you can only get to by never getting hit, and replaying the same parts of the first stages of Volgarr due to my clumsiness is just too tedious.
Cannon Fodder - Nomen est omen.
Superfrog. May look cute, but the later levels need incredible precision. And the game is pretty fast too.
Deathtrap Dungeon
Volgarr the Viking

The question is, what do you keep in your back pocket O_o

I'm not sure if I should be flattered or concerned!
For me its Die by the Sword.

But because i cant play it as its never worked. Impossible to complete something that doesnt work.

That doesn't count. :P The OP clearly states that bugs and bad programming don't count. So come on reaver, fess up, what do you suck at? :D

Its not a bug or programming, i played a demo of it years ago, i think its a incompatibility issue.

As for games i can play and suck at... Any racing game, they just are not my thing, if i could be assed to play them i might get better but they just are not interesting to me. Last time i played one i ended up turning around and going the wrong way simply so i could smash into the oncoming cars.

Though i did used to like Monster Truck Madness.
For RTS games, possibly KKND Extreme and KKND2 (when played on hardest difficulty).

I consider KKND Extreme as maybe the hardest (old-skool) RTS game I've played. I finished it though, and it isn't like all, or even most, missions were overly hard. But some of the missions, damn...

I haven't played KKND2 yet, but I presume some missions in it are maybe even worse, as the game developers had to write an official walkthrough for one of the missions, as many players claimed it is impossible to finish.

Apparently it was just a case of flawed game testing, ie. the developers/testers had become so good in their own game that the difficulty level was borked (at least for one mission), where you needed to do everything perfectly in order to succeed.
