I didn't notice this until I went of the vampire the masquerade page. It doesn't bother me too much, even if I have to wait till I can buy the game, but when did this happen?

I think that the ERSB and US equivalent advisory ages have been on there for quite a while.

I know about the little age warnings on the descriptions, its more of the fact that you have to be 18+ to buy the game now.
It's illegal in the US (at least I still think it is) to sell a mature rated game to a minor. I have no idea how this applies to a digital store but I would think it's a way to cover their butts just in case.

Okay. I can understand that.

Well, if thats the case, you could always temporarily change your birthday in the account settings.

Wow - I had no idea about that. I assumed the ToS on this site would say you had to be over 18 anyway? Although I suppose now they support non-credit card payments, it's easier to be a minor and on the site.
Interesting considering that GOG seems to ignore German age restrictions and even sells games banned there (at least the banned uncut versions) to German users. I thought they completely ignored all restrictions of this kind.
I think anyone under the age of 18 who shows an interest in games like VTM: Redemption at this time and age could be considered precocious. ;)

Can't you play BloodRayne instead? That's only 16+ ... :D

Banning the sale of M rated games to minors is completely up to the store in the US. The ESRB ratings are not backed by any laws and in fact, the Supreme Court struck down a CA law trying to prevent the sale of violent games to minors.

A bill was introduced, but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

Because people can't decide if the person located in Germany, purchasing the digital game is purchasing it in Germany or purchasing it in the country, where GOG is located, I think. OR maybe GOG doesn't care for German laws because they aren't located in Germany and the German government can't do anything to them. OR maybe such shitty draconian laws were simply meant to be broken. :)

I thought the ESRB rating of M was 17+ and just a suggestion, not a law?
Already a big thread on this.

But yeah, just do what DrYaboll said if you really want it, just change your birthdate temporarily in the site settings (or permanently, who tells the truth on the internet anyways?)
