When GOG sign a contract with Carmageddon publisher...
You have to have a special account here to see it in the catalogue, the GOG Elite Membership. I can give you a pass, no problem. Here's all what you have to do: donate $50 on this account:[REDACTED BY ADMIN]

Admin note: Dammit Titanium! One more and we're taking your elite membership status!

---- hint, they have already done this ;)

So I am also excited they will come soon. I could not get the carmageddon games to run on newer OSes (read 98/ME iirc) so I tossed them way back. Would love to play these today ;)

The new game is owned by : Driving Game IP Ltd. So we will see :)
It's still developed by Stainless Games

hint: Square don't own the IP at the moment ;)

Edit: Forget that, I made a mistake. I thought I/O had gotten the rights to Hitman back ...

Sadly no :)

I supplied a link showing that Eidos (a Square Enix subsidiary) has rights to Carmaggeddon. Perhaps you could share a link showing that is false?

read the History paragraph :)
Downside: Rights holder isn't on GOG.

Upside: We're getting a new Carmageddon game that seems to be in the spirit of the first game.

Upside 2: The current rights holder (Stainless) have publicly stated that their reasons for not releasing the games on GOG is because they really don't care if people 'pirate' those games. They just want them to be played and enjoyed. So while they're not officially public domain, they're one of the most clear-cut cases of abandonware there is.

Edit: Official Site

Interview clarifying the abandonware status of the games.

If I'm not mistaking we have a game from Stainless Games on GoG - Red Baron ;)

And they actually don't have much games for PC(Risk Factions[EA],Red Baron[Sierra],Magic The Gathering & Carmageddon)

Stainless seems to be happy with people pirating the old games (you can read this in their carmageddon blog somewhere). Yeah, that's weird. I assume GOG guys are already there talking some sense into their heads. :P

At least they really really should.

EDIT: Ops! Ninja'd by everyone else. XD

Any reason why they haven't just said GOG can offer it as a free game?
It'd be nice they made them free on here if they didn't care...you know for the fans and to remind people that Carmageddon exists...

Wouldn't it greatly benefit them though to release them here if only for publicity's sake?
