HI guys.
I don't know how many of you have played quake Team fortress, but there is a free version called MegaTF http://www.campu.org/infinity/ . I love quake Team fortress and there was nobody to play it with, so I thought. why not organise a game on GOG. Surely somebody on here wants to play Team fortress for free? If your interested, post a message on this thread and if we get enough people we can set up a game.
Bump
I presume this is the same Quake MegaTF that I played like a decade ago? I definitely liked it, the additions on top of the vanilla QuakeTF were quite nice, e.g. the floating device which would shoot lasers at enemies in its vicinity.

It was very good for causing some harm to those pesky snipers who'd just stand in one place shooting other players, with no fear of retribution. At least the device would divert their attention to elsewhere so that you'd have a shot try to make a run into their base.

Then again, I stopped playing Quake TF (including MegaTF) when the cheater problem got too bad. At that point I switched to TeamFortress Classic which was curbing the cheaters better. But if MegaTF doesn't have this problem anymore, I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Yeah, this is basically a free version of Quake TF (my favourite TF version)
I highly doubt the cheater problem is that bad, seeing as there is never any players on the server. Most people now play TF 2 and CS. I like CS but my download speed sucks so I can't download TF 2.
But thanks for expressing interest. We need more players though. Anybody you know who would like to play, please tell them to post on this forum. When we get enough players, we can set up a server.

Okay. I've used dark places with megaTF so that now I can join a team fortress server. Next I'm going to try to make one.
Why did I just see this? I would surely join in on some MegaTF since Fortress Forever and Team Fortress Classic is pretty much dead. =D

Excellent! I knew somebody would want to play. Here is what I did to get it working:
1) Download MegaTF from http://www.campu.org/infinity/ and install.
2) Download Darkplaces from http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/download.html
3) Extract Darkplaces to the MegaTF folder (default C:\Program Files\MegaTF)
4) You can then run darkplaces-sdl.exe or darkplaces.exe from the folder to start MegaTF! I just made a shortcut to the desktop.
5) For newbies, to connect to a server, press the tilde key (` or # depending on your keyboard) to bring down the console and type connect <serveraddress>:<port>. Here is one I just connected to: quakeworld.ipgn.com.au:27506 (http://www.quakeservers.net/quakeworld/server_status/3568/)
6) Voila
Also, we need more than three players (Including me) If anybody knows somebody who likes Quake TF, let them know about this!
P.S Darkplaces may be too much for some PCs. Try a different engine, such as JoeQuake or Fitzquake

Thats Fine. It'll probably take a while to gather all the players together anyway.
Hers a thread I posted on Quakeone forums. I'm hoping some people there will join aswell

Anybody who is currently reading this thread, I urge you to join, even if you've never played Team fortress, Its free and You might like it.
Progress update

It turns out that MegaTF is not the only standalone QTF game. Another version, known as ZelTF exists.
Here is the download page http://www.ausgamers.com/files/details/html/31412
I'm downloading it now.
ZelTF is similar to MegaTF, except without the added features. It is just a vanilla TF client
I just found out that there is no need to use darkplaces. There is a Quakeforge client inside the megaTF folder. I'll cover it tomorrow. I'm tired.
There is no need to use darkplaces as MegaTF does come with its own server browser and Quakeforge client. Unfortunately the Server browser kept crashing on me so I just ran the qf-client-wgl.exe directly and used the connect command to join a server. It works better with quake forge than darkplaces so I recommend using the inbuilt client.
I don't have time to play yet, but I just installed MegaTF in Win8, and upon launching it I get:

Run-time error '10014': Invalid argument

Maybe I am missing some component in Win8 or blaablaablaa. I don't have much time to look at it at the moment.

EDIT: Maybe it is this one:
