thme: Will gog be making any of the Wizardry games available in the future?
At the risk of necroposting (though not so bad, only a few weeks), I'll simply bump this. The
Wizardry series is every bit as important to the history of CRPGs as
Ultima and
Might & Magic, both of which are well-represented in the GOG catalog.
I can only assume it's some sort of deal where whoever currently owns the rights to Sir-Tech's IP doesn't care to release the games to GOG at this time. Barring that, there's absolutely no reason why
Wizardry shouldn't be here. Get past the lineart dungeons and sparse CGA sprites and you'll find some of the most challenging level design in gaming history; in particular, the fourth installment (
The Return of Werdna) would probably reduce even Chuck Norris to frustrated tears. Anyone who thinks
Skyrim or
Dragon Age are among the most difficult RPGs ever created will be humbled, and
then some, by the
Wizardry series.
Hopefully the keepers of the
Wizardry flame will relent and allow GOG the rights to at least the first seven games (the ones contained in the
Ultimate Wizardry Archives from several years back).
