Will gog be making any of the Wizardry games available in the future?
No it is forever cursed. Never to be seen by man again.

At the risk of necroposting (though not so bad, only a few weeks), I'll simply bump this. The Wizardry series is every bit as important to the history of CRPGs as Ultima and Might & Magic, both of which are well-represented in the GOG catalog.

I can only assume it's some sort of deal where whoever currently owns the rights to Sir-Tech's IP doesn't care to release the games to GOG at this time. Barring that, there's absolutely no reason why Wizardry shouldn't be here. Get past the lineart dungeons and sparse CGA sprites and you'll find some of the most challenging level design in gaming history; in particular, the fourth installment (The Return of Werdna) would probably reduce even Chuck Norris to frustrated tears. Anyone who thinks Skyrim or Dragon Age are among the most difficult RPGs ever created will be humbled, and then some, by the Wizardry series.

Hopefully the keepers of the Wizardry flame will relent and allow GOG the rights to at least the first seven games (the ones contained in the Ultimate Wizardry Archives from several years back).
In fact, even though it's clearly incomplete in parts, Wizardry 8 was pretty fun too (although a massive departure from the previous games graphically). I rather liked the design of the combat system. blending continuous space and terrain with traditional RPG combat.

I first discovered Wizardry when I found the amusingly-illustrated Wizardry 1 manual (and no disks) in a bookshelf ("Using all the power and sophistication of the PASCAL programming language!"), and I think my quest to play the awesomeness described within became my introduction to the wide world of emulators. A friend and I eventually tried programming a clone for TI graphing calculators (the display code ran rather slowly >.>), but I never did a full run through the series. I would *love* to see the games on GOG and would definitely buy them all.

Also, this little fan video for Wiz7 has an artfully constructed intro. :-)

For it. It should be added to the long list of games that GOG should get, but in the RPG category it's close to the top and more than worthy of their attention. Hopefully they can get all the paperwork done to get it on the site.

Yeah, they should really keep some kind of a list somewhere.

<cries out in vain to the EnigmaticT>Where is the new wishlist!</cries generally, for lack of wishlist>
The Wizardry IP is owned by a Japanese company. Since they're actively releasing content for the Wizardry series, as well as re-releasing a lot of the old content on other platforms (DS/etc) it's unlikely GOG will get the rights to release it.
Yes. Game X will be released on GOG in Y amount of time. Be patient.

Yes, I saw this on wikipedia after I made the post. Apparently there are over a dozen Japanese incarnations of the game. There is even an iphone version, you can download the first five levels for free and then pay $9.95 for the full version. You would think the Japanese company would like to make some royalties on the original series of games.
I think there's a Wizardry game for the PS3. Worth getting for $15?

Why pay another company a cut of your IP when you can just release the game yourself and make all the money
It was my understanding that Andrew Greenberg had been in some sort of legal battle with Sir Tech for years to regain the rights to the Wizardry series. A quick google search reveals all manner of interesting results. Heck, Greenberg took up patent law after he left the series, and has been fighting Sir Tech for around 15 years to set things right. I suspect this legal battle is preventing Wizardry from hitting GoG more than anything else.

Sirtech has not been an actual company since 2001. Even Sir Tech Canada closed in 2003.

As I indicated currently a Japanese company owns the rights to the Wizardry license.

If Greenberg is 'fighting' anyone it's IPM not SIrTech. There's no evidence he is doing so and IPM does own the rights so any standing Greenberg has is pretty much zero.
It does seem that the Japanese company is just sitting on this without doing much of anything on it, at least anything close to the original PC series. I'd love for the Wizardry series to show up on GOG/steam (everywhere really). It's rather surprising that the Japanese company that holds the IP doesn't catch the fever so many other companies have been getting where putting out a digital version of the older pc games has helped revitalize the franchise or at least give them more money. So hopefully the people at GOG are actively going after this series to try to knock some sense into them putting it out or finding a US/EU studio to helm putting together a digital version.
Have all the Wizardry games, hell I waited outside Electronic Boutique and rushed in to grab the only copy they had if Wizardry 8 when it came out, but if someone could get the IP and release a Wizardry 9 I would gladly buy them again to sow support.

Every now and then A Japan only Wizardry game pops up (On Portables normally) but nothing that is directly related to the original series.
