Okay, to give people an idea of potential dates:

http://www.go-kili.com/kilimanjaro_datescost.htm

Since we're going to have people with a mixture of abilities, this looks like a good route (Crater Camp sounds amazing!):

http://www.go-kili.com/kilimanjaro_lemosho_crater.htm

There is some "scrambling", but no rock climbing.

I've fired off a couple of emails to express our interest in accepting the challenge of Kilimanjaro! I'll update when I get a response with information about estimated costs, etc.

If people want to contact me, they can email me at nicholasmillar(at)hotmail(dot)com (which is also my Windows Live user ID). I'm also on Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/nmillar) and GOG PM.

Maybe in one more year.
Dude... This is going to kick sooooooooooo muuuuccchhhh assssss!!

Think of this as a ridge line hike slow and steady all day every day for a week.... :) the view is worth it, almost made me cry :)

For $1000, they guide you back down. For this $500 special price, they just push you off.
Man, i would absolutely love to, but i am no where near in the financial position to even toy with the idea.

But otherwise, you will definitely have my support, and will definitely say some prayers for you.

nmillar: Would You Like to Climb Kilimanjaro for charity ?
No, thank you.

And how exactly do you do that ? Is it a natural feature of that mountain, to give money to an association when it's climbed on ?
avatar
Aliasalpha: More epic than strolling unprotected through the zone avoiding rad pockets and looking for anomalies (other than fenixp)?
avatar
akwater: Yep.... Way more epic!!!! Cause when we are done climbing I'm shooting me a Lion! (Kidding totally of course I might try and see about a safari or something)
Actually the Tanzanian locals welcome people to the area to hunt animals you wouldn't expect. Lions are damned dangerous to them and the government cuts fat checks to the villagers when some rich guy pays to shoot one. Yeah I know it sounds mean (and not all hunters have a good attitude, scratch that, most do not) but they would need to control these animals anyway, which means culling a certain amount of them. They just choose to get a huge economic benefit in the process.

There are some really cool safaris you can tack on where you sleep in a treehouse and watch animals all night. You get a discount for booking the climb and safari together (I think your stay fee to the Tanzanian government covers both) so if you're doing it it's worth doing both if you have even a minor interest.

Don't they have walk-a-thons and other types of pledge drives in France? That's all it is, someone pledges a couple bucks if you make it to the top. You get a couple hundred pledges and voila, you donate the proceeds to whatever charity you promised.

Make sure they have proper safety gear, including a compression tent. If you get sick, you will need to be carried down in one (unless you fancy your brain fluids leaking out of your skull). Also, a proper number of porters is always good, and you should ask what their porters expect as a tip!

Okay, I just vomited all I know, you probably already know it anyway, carry on!

Thank you for contacting the Kiliwarriors - Proudly Maasai, Distinctly Tanzanian! We welcome the opportunity to make your trip truly memorable - we have a very special, high spirited and permanent, experienced mountain team. They offer a truly special experience on the mountain as you will see in the many testimonials on our website and our Kiliwarrior fans on Facebook

- we post daily reports from Kilimanjaro during treks for friends and families to follow along!

Climbing with the Kiliwarriors is by far the most exclusive experience on the mountain. Best routes, best equipment, best guides, most fun, best safety procedures, most eco-aware, best pre- and post climb accommodations. But according to our clients, it is the chemistry of our team and our confidence on the mountain that made their trips unforgettable – please read our testimonials

Nicholas, what charity are you climbing for? Please provide us with more information - the charity name, website, etc. Below is more info about us, our treks and safaris:

We specialize in the 9-day Western Breach Route

- it is the most scenic route, less traveled, has a built in acclimatization day to ensure a more enjoyable mountain experience and summit success, overnights at the Crater and has a daytime ascent to the summit. Your hike to the summit on the morning of day 8 only takes 90 minutes, so you are really able to enjoy the summit experience! Ninety-nine percent of our clients opt for this route and we have almost 100% summit success on this route!

Our second recommended route for the most enjoyable trek and summit success is the 9-day Lemosho Crater Route

- see below for a link to a recent film on this route starring the Kiliwarriors & Angie Everhart! This route also offers a daytime summit ascent.

The 7-day Machame Route

is our third option and great for clients who do not mind the all night summit ascent and who only have 7 days available to trek.

For detailed information on the steps to planning and signing up for your trek (links to air carriers, fitness, etc.) go here: Planning Your Trek

For climb package cost and a detailed list of everything included in the climb package, please read the Costs Section

of our web site. For trek departure dates see Trekking Dates

. Keep in mind you will need to arrive 2 days prior to the trek. Most clients fly via Amsterdam and catch KLM direct to Kilimanjaro airport (JRO). These KLM flights arrive around 9 pm in the evening and we will meet you at the airport and take very good care of you for the rest of the trip!

The Kiliwarriors are the stars in a 120 minute DVD – "Kilimanjaro – The Way It Is" It won four Telly Awards! To see us at the top of our game on Kilimanjaro, please order the DVD at Amazon.com in the USA. ASIN is B0007PNNPC. We can also ship worldwide if you contact us direct.

"Conquering Kilimanjaro," an eco-documentary starring the Kiliwarriors and supermodel Angie Everhart premiered on HDNet

in the USA as part of the network's InFocus documentary series in 2009. The show continues to air periodically - check local TV listings if you have HDNet either direct or via international syndicate!

And our new Machame video can be seen on YouTube - see link below!

About a possible safari after the trek, you can choose from our standard "After-Climb" Safaris

. If you want a longer safari with more options, please look at www.kiliwarriors.com

and pick your month of travel for ideas of typical safaris we do in that month! These can all be customized for you.

To secure your spot on the mountain, complete our brief Online Booking

form and call us to arrange your deposit payment ($500 per person) by credit card or if you prefer, send deposit funds to us via Paypal to eben@kiliwarriors.com Kindly note that our trek availability changes often.

We look forward to welcoming you to our family in Africa. Just like our past clients, you will be amazed by the splendor and beauty of East Africa – and the Kiliwarriors will ensure that you have a lot of fun too!

Kind Regards,

Carol

Yeah, these Kili Warriors guys sound pretty awesome! :)
I'd like to try this but unfortunately, I don't have that chunk of change that I can freely spent on unless I'm in deep debt.

Also, I suffer from severe case of acrophobia, which I'm trying to fix by playing base jumping game that I bought off of Steam for few bucks.

For those who chose to participate in this event, I wish them the best and I hope it will be safe journey for them.

I'd love to see the pictures from this voyage if possible.

GameRager: WTF is killimanjaro?
It's the biggest free-standing mountain in the world, often referred to as the fourth summit (there are seven summits altogether - the biggest mountain on each continent - I intend to do them all in my lifetime).
