stoicsentry: That's so wrong of him.
I find it funny how people get all up in arms when companies are trashy or act unethically, but of course, they themselves act the same exact way. So what do you expect? People want companies to be more ethical than they are themselves... hypocrites.
I think it's rather that people are shocked when a company is LESS ethical than they are themselves. We all do stuff that is less ethical at times, but to find a huge company can do it right in the open and rub our faces in it, is what tends to piss people off big time.
Let's take a look at Apple's "achievements":
- barely anything portable they make has an exchangeable battery because they want you to buy original Apple batteries (which are 5-10 times more expensive than they should be)
- they never give support for SD cards in their products because then you wouldn't pay a premium for the 32GB models. Nearly every other brand allows SD cards to let you quickly swap data - not Apple
- they avoid using ANY standard ports requiring you to buy their extremely expensive cables for even the most basic of things.
- Microsoft got fined by the EU for doing stuff that Apple does to far greater extents - Microsoft can't even bundle their Internet Explorer anymore while Apple stuffs all sorts of apps inside Mac OS X and can do it without anyone saying a word. Add to this that the OS is for Apple hardware only, and it's obvious that something smells rotten here.
Oh, I could write a list as long as my arm but, suffice to say, Apple has done and is doing some pretty horrible stuff - from having sweat shop factories in China to suing companies left and right to scamming you on part prices to locking down their devices to have absolute control, to ... well you get the idea. Apple easily sits in number 1 for the most selfish and "custom-screwing-over" company in the IT business. I know many companies but none are anywhere near as bad as Apple.
