So, I played NWN on Vista, and it worked without a problem. But I recently installed Windows 7, and reinstalled NWN. It installs fine, and the launcher works. But when I press play, the splash screen comes up for a few seconds, then goes away.

nwmain.exe is running, and I don't get any errors. But... It doesn't do ANYTHING. It just sits there, using %0.10 of my processor, and that's it.

I've tried reinstalling the latest patch, I've installed DirectX 9.0c, and tried all the exes in compatibility with admin. But it doesn't help...

My specs are:
Dell Latitude E6400
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80GHz
4 GIGs RAM
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M
I'm having the same problem. I tried finding a solution on the web, like http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/187/index/3341490 but it doesn't seem to work for me.

I hope someone has a suggestion :)
I'm told newer nvidia cards have issues with NWN. I'm not sure about fixes. The Bioware forums would be a better place to ask.

I guess I should add then that my graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 5700 series. So it's not specific to nvidia cards, but I guess it still could be graphics related.
are you right clicking on the launcher and running as admin?

also Equlan, your probably going to want to turn off your catalyst controler. . that's the only way i got mine to work, i have that same exact video card.
I've tried everything I could, and the Bioware forums didn't help :/
Tried with and without administrator and compatibility mode.

Thanks for the tip, Snyder, sadly no luck :(

I think I'm giving up. Will try it when I some day get another setup.
*Bump*

I really want this game to work lol

Do you have some kind of virus protection or other background program that could interfere with the execution of nwmain?

Have you installed to the standard 'Program Files' folder?

I turned off Comodo Firewall and Malwarebytes, and installed into the standard programs folder. Same result. Even with compatibility :/

Ok, if you disabled Malwarebytes that shouldn't be the problem.

I've heard that it is best to install outside the standard 'Program Files' folder. I don't think it should matter when you run as administrator, but I would give it a go: reinstall (or move, that might work) files to a directory outside the 'program files' folder, like maybe C:\Games\NWN, and try again.
I hope it helps, ... If not i'm at a loss.

And, btw, the latest patch you installed was the 'Critical Rebuild Patch 1.69', right?

edit:
I found this thread on the official forum. It has some info on trouble-shooting the installation.

The different install locations didn't work :/
And for some reason, I could run the disk version, but it had to close because of a compatibility issue with windows 7. I then updated it, and had the same problem as the gog version, with the 1.69 patch. It actually stopped working when I tried to 1.66 patch, and 1.68 didn't work either.

And I've tried pretty much everything in that thread :/

It is good that the cd-installation ran. You can make win7 emulate the right compatibility settings for the game. Just right click on nwmain.exe and choose the compatibility option.

You should't apply earlier patches to a fully updated installation, if thats what you did.
Try to install this: Critical Rebuild Patch (Choose the HotU version with the gog version).
