Widescreen has been around for quite a while now and has arguable been the standard for 5+ years now. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, but you are certainly a minority and using old tech.
But i don't think it is so hard to make 4:3 "window" for a 16:9 game. This and Bulletstorm are only games so far that does not have this option.

And Mirror's Edge, and Assasin's Creed, and FEAR 2 when it launched, and probably many more.

And I am sure it is harder than you realize, otherwise why wouldn't they do it?

Alfheira:
The fix is coming, I shall wait for it. I have a 16x10 monitor and i get the same issues trying to run at 1920x1200. I'm happy they decided to fix bugs and all, but I honestly cannot stand having the black bars around my game. Had the same issue with Fear 2 back when. It's annoying as all hell for me.

I can wait, I just hope they get it fixed shortly.

And also not needed to run the game, "thank you very much."

It is cause at the moment I cannot read shit without bending toward my monitor. And there is no option to use a bigger font either or is there?
I have to say, I myself hate the fact there are black bars on my screen. The game looks smooshed up, everything is so small, and I dont feel like im playing a game, I feel like im watching a widescreen movie. I can cope with a widescreen movie with the bars, but I cannot stand to see it in a game. My eyes hurt trying to see what I am doing, and so far I am hating the game already, and this was supposed to be better than the first game. Instead it feels worse.
I am waiting too for a fix for the black bars on my 5:4 1280x1024 monitor.
I cannot really enjoy the great graphics of this Game.

I'm with ya on this one. I know a patch for it is in the works. I don't mind waiting simply because I know how good a company CD projekt is. On 1920x1200 it seems like so much of the game is cut off for me and it drives me crazy.
So can someone from GOG post the ETA of 4:3/5:4/16:10 patch?

I just essentially played the very first part for like 5 minutes then realized the screen had the black borders and I realized it wasn't just a cut scene effect.
The only issue i have is that the font is extremely, and i do mean EXTREMELY small. Stuff like the damage info on the low right is nearly unreadable.

Though i agree that the black bars make everything look squished together, its really mystery what CDPR figured when they did that, a real technical reason why the image isn't fully scaled to the screen res doesn't exist.

I agree that the vision impairment sucks, but more than that we need a FOV setting as well, because if they just remove the bars and move the hud elements up (and down) to fit in the FOV is still wrong unless you play on 16:9
