Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.



It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made <span class="bold">Siege of Dragonspear</span> possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. Gilozard: You can ask for the original installer, but I don't think it's offered in the download section.

JMich: ? You're talking about D:OS or Wasteland 2? Or is this a case of getting the games after the new versions came out, thus not getting the old ones?

Edit: Ah, just saw the comment on D:OS EE.
Huh, they do offer it unbundled if you bought it before the expanded edition came out. I hadn't noticed.

I was referring to this notice in the EE edition:
"If you would like to receive the classic, 32-bit version of Divinity Original Sin please submit your request here: http://www.gog.com/support/contact/my_orders_and_payments."

So regardless of when you bought D:OS you can get both the EE and original. That's the way it's always been with GOG games that later got an update edition afaik.

I got back online to check replies to the discussions on Beamdog and the whole site is down:

-85% is pretty good, but I have no interest in the EE and not that much in Dragonspear after the reviews. Would also hate for the originals to disappear as individual titles from my shelf at some point if I went and got the EE.

Sad to see the originals leave as separate titles. On the other hand am very glad that GOG.com gave good advance notice, thank you for that at least. Already spread the word a bit.

One thing about Dragonspear does tickle my interest; the Baldur's Gate EE FLAC soundtrack extra. Does anyone know if the EE soundtrack is re-recorded? A bit of touching up might be fine, but a re-recording I wouldn't care about.

Is there an entry in the wishlist for keeping the games separate? At least this could help to state the discontent people have as customers with this decision. I feel something shady coming on, since Beamdog's versions are known for having several technical difficulties which only got worse with SoD, especially incomparison with GoG's versions.

I really don't think anything shady is happening.

There are several other games that have had the same process, and the old installer just gets added as an extra in the gamecard.

The only shady thing I can think of is that GOG might not keep updating the old installer for new operating systems. But it's already supposed to be compatible with Windows 10 and Linux, so hopefully that won't be a big issue.
They probably have to keep it updated for the people who bought it as a separate game anyway.

I don't think it's as simple as that, because Beamdog is claiming ownership of the games. It's their call what's done with them from now on.

The rights are more split up than that. There's a discussion of who has which rights upthread, suffice it to say Beamdog is not the sole owner.

And yes, it is as simple as that.

GOG customers were sold a valid license, which means that the game can't be removed from their shelves even if the store isn't selling new licenses.

GOG promises to keep games updated for new operating systems, so 1) there's a potential legal argument if they try to back out, and 2) it would be horrible PR so they're not going to unless they're closing.

We have previous scenarios exactly the same as this one, and we know what it looks like. People really don't need to worry.

I listened to the whole album yesterday: it's the original recordings added with tracks written especially for the Enhanced Edition games.

Unless things have changed, it wasn't the case with Darksiders II. Unless you bought it before the Deathinitive Edition came out, you can't get the original (if you did, but didn't get the DLC, you're stuck without that) - it's up to the dev/publisher.
