UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

So that's who to blame for that? If I knew it I wouldn't have bought the EE when I did. SJW=vomit.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Quick replies:

1) "Big Momma" Amber Scott is to blame for everything concerning SoD. She got paid to rape the franchise.
2) If you regret buying EEs, you can politely ask for a gog-store-credit-refund; that's what i did and i was allowed to. You should NEVER support garbage titles with crap content who also destroy classic games, instead of expanding on them; while propagating that they "FIX" them, too...
3) SJW=vomit for a reason and a good one, too. In the beginning, it was tolerance and acceptance. In the present, it is intrusion, agenda, propaganda, enforced and provocative displays of hate to classic media with the self-delusion of "FIXING" them, while actually destroying them, by turning them into pushers of certain rhetoric. Anyone who wants the original, traditional stuff and is bugged by what became of it, is a "nazi", an "enemy", a "scum"; it's no longer about tolerance but about DOMINANCE! As plain as that. Thankfully, refund dominates better than a crappy plot and a hamfisted eyesore which ruined the legacy of an all-times classic masterpiece, such as this one.

P.S. Try refunding in case you are eligible, too. In store credits.
Just bought the EE's as a gifts because this is the last chance of getting them separately before the merging which really i don't see any point in. Already bought the originals on GOG.

What's the difference between the old ones and the EE's? Except for a new revamped interface? Someone said the EE's load and save way faster than the originals.

If i regret my purchase i hope i can do a refund since i never gifted them to anyone but myself yet.
I love the new ones. :D
Will the original versions and the new editions be available as separate downloads? I don't have the money to pick up the original versions of these games right now but I really want to play them and my PC can't run the new editions.

revanbh: Underhanded move by Beamdog and GOG.com. Forcing people to buy Enhanced Editions in order to access Classic versions of these games. Very disappointing.
Hasbro owns Baldurs Gate. Neither Beamdog nor GOG can choose to bundle the originals.

tinyE: I love the new ones. :D
Me too. I haven't played the originals since the EEs came out.

moonshineshadow: Not selling the old and the enhanced version seperately anymore? Interesting decision o.O
"Interesting" is one way to put it...I might use a different adjective myself. I always thought GOG stood for Good Old Games. Why then do they think it a prudent move to eliminate the ability for people to purchase the original BG games? Hmmm...I'm betting it has something to do with money.

So basically, if I'm understanding this correctly, if someone who doesn't already own them on GOG wanted to play the original BG games, that person would have to purchase the "Enhanced Edition" versions, thus funding Beamdog and their SJW agenda.

That's a real shame.

I find it interesting that everyone assumes that GOG has something to do with it.

Well they were behind Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the 'New Kids on the Block' reunion, so I guess we might as well blame this on them too.

trusteft: I just find it funny how the promoters of "freedom" are the first to ask for bans.
avatar
dtgreene: Your freedom ends when it infringes on mine, in general.

For example, you are not free to assault others, because doing so deprives people of their freedoms.

(I should also note that the particular three letter abbreviation is a strong signal that the person using it is a bigot.)
I'd be alright with people expressing all forms of speech (I encourage this in my classroom). The only thing I ask is that people who express opinions on an issue be ready to back them up when challenged. Where I become confused here is that you are essentially arguing that we ought to ban this person from expressing himself, yet you are arguing for freedom ("your freedom ends when it infringes on mine"). I think you can see why someone like myself might be a bit confused about this given that what you are arguing does not promote freedom in any sense.

Onto the current topic of discussion:
This certainly does sound like an odd way to go about it - removing options from the consumer. Why not just keep the current arrangement where you sell the games separately? I did not hear anyone complaining about it :)

Another day, another super shady dick move by GOG. Is nothing sacred anymore? FFFS.

Yes, For Fucking Fucks Sake.

tinyE: I was joking dt.
If anyone starts banning any words in here I will be the 1st one to go, and it will be of my own accord and it will be permanent.
avatar
dtgreene: I know you were joking (from a post you made shortly afterwords), but I find that people who use that particular 3 letter abbreviation are not fair-minded people. If it were possible to block users on the forum, those who use that term would be prime candidates for blocking.
Seriously? I've tried to give you the benefit of the doubt in the past, but you've just proven that people who use "that particular 3 letter abbreviation" are right about you. You're just as bad as any extreme right-wing lunatic.

(Just to clarify, since some of the back-and-forth was auto-snipped: There's nothing wrong with blocking users on your personal account, but dtgreene seems to actually endorse banning people.)

And what freedom are you being deprived of when someone posts something you don't like on a forum?

You're a fascist. People like you are the reason there's a strong pushback against the left. Not some vast hidden horde of bigots and haters, just a whole bunch of regular people who are tired of this kind of anti-freedom bullshit.

dtgreene: One word of advice: Don't use that three letter abbreviation that starts with a curvy letter.

Hammer49: "Cis"?

dtgreene: [...] I find that people who use that particular 3 letter abbreviation are not fair-minded people.

Hammer49: Yah, definitely "cis".
Except that cis is not an abbreviation.

"cis" is a Latin term meaning "on this side" (trans similarly means "on the other side").

Consider this to be backed up the same way TinyE backed up their opinion (the one I quoted earlier).

From Hasbro's perspective, I'd say it makes perfect sense. They get a cut from either game, so why compete with yourself? Put everything in the one that's being actively marketed.

Reduces confusion too. Once the bundling is done, there won't be anymore "which version do I need for Siege"? questions.

I know what it really means, but I like to perpetuate the "Comfortable In Skin" myth whenever possible. Keeps things fresh.
