Johnathanamz: I will probably purchase 8 more Ubisoft video games from Steam in the next five months, only video games that have both multiplayer and singleplayer, not video games that are 100% singleplayer only. Then I will write negative reviews asking Ubisoft to stop shutting down their multiplayer servers and to release their video games for sale 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free.
All you're doing is helping legitimize their behavior. The negative reviews don't matter let alone in an industry where gaming media fawns all over these big publishers (or, in cases where big sites offer negative reviews, they're never negative enough...for instance if a big site reviews a AAA clunker as a 60 out of100 then really our adjusted score as a consumer should be to assume the game is like a 6 out of 100).

If gamers show they don't care about DRM by buying DRMed games on DRMed platforms, the gamers then turning around and saying "release your games DRM-free" don't seem very serious. After all, they bought the games DRMed (negative review after the fact or not), so the companies will figure there is no point releasing DRM-free if they can reach you on a DRMed platform anyway.

The original idea of the topic in contacting them on their forum seems a better bet to the games coming here DRM-free, for those who wish to participate.
I wouldn't put it past Ubisoft if they aren't aware that HoMM3 has been the more or less undisputed no. 1 all-time bestseller on GOG for YEARS - which translates to a couple million(!) sold copies if I'm not mistaken.
Something that probably should be pointed out in this thread over there again, to maybe make them realise the untapped potential of their 1986-2009 back catalogue as well.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ubisoft_games:_1986-1999
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ubisoft_games:_2000-2009

Tonic Trouble, The Fifth Element, Secrets of the Luxor, B.A.T. & B.A.T. II - The Koshan Conspiracy, Iron Lord, Prince of Persia, Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, Prince of Persia 3D, Theocracy, In Cold Blood, Chessmaster 8000, Chessmaster 9000, Stupid Invaders, Conflict Zone, Dragon Riders: Chronicles of Pern, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, The Final Cut, IL-2 Sturmovik, Will Rock, In Memoriam, Warlords IV: Heroes of Etheria, Alexander, Playboy: The Mansion, Cold Fear, the rest of the Silent Hunter and Splinter Cell series, the CSI games... wouldn't sell a couple million copies like HoMM3 - at least not in the short-term - but certainly enough copies to be worth dusting them off and handing them over to GOG.
Absolute classics like the original Prince of Persia actually could sell a couple million copies over a relatively short period of time, coming to think about it.

Nothing can either be done if we sit on the side lines and do nothing about it.

This is why I am doing this so you do not have to do this.
More power to you.

I spoke with an indie developer today and asked them to release on GOG. They said they just simply had never thought about it prior (forgetting I'd had a separate email conversation with them 2 years prior on the same subject)... and would look into it after a Steam release. So...

... I obviously look to doing what little we can to encourage developers and publishers to look at GOG. But...

... I fear that many companies release om GOG to test the waters...

... see what sales numbers they can get...

... and then promptly stop releasing games here when the numbers are minimal in comparison to Steam. *sigh*

I fear we've seen the first and last from many publishers... especially from the AAA space.

Still, wishing luck and... VIVA DRM FREE!

Yep. That's a winning strategy, if I ever saw one.

"Here, Ubisoft...take my money! Oh, and btw: I don't like your games."

I'm sure that'll teach them.

Us just asking them to release their video games for sale on gog.com on a bunch of social media web sites does not really work.

How ever on Steam in the reviews video game developers respond to them from time to time.

A VALVE employee responded to my negative Counter-Strike: Global Offensive review.

Social media web sites they will mostly ignore probably because of so many people who say stupid stuff to them and places like Twitter do not allow you to say much.

Steam's review system is a tool for video game developers to use. It works.

I have gotten other responses on Steam's reviews as well.

There are games that were singleplayer-only from the start though.

Ubisoft may be "too big" and / or snobby to read and respond to Steam reviews. They may just look at some excel sheet and make decisions based on those. Whenever there's a 1st party platform/forum/discord, I tend to try to get attention there.

You mean games like Rainbow Six Siege? which curretnly have 933641 rreviews on Steam? yeeeeesss...... they hire someone to sit and read thrugh all those reviews. brilliant plan - I approve, I do not see any problems here. do spend your money like this, I am sure this will work perfectly and it will make UBI change their mind. why did not anyone think about this before? it is soo simple.
If anybody missed this thread and wants to add their voice of support in the linked Ubi thread, still feel free to do so. I recognize it probably won't change anything unfortunately, but the more voices the better.

I also would not mind a PC Port of the XBox 360 Live Arcade version of the original PoP. That was a excellent version and XB360 games should be easy enough to translate to PC.

Well, their forum was crap anyway, it was very chaotic and unstructured. Go to one thread, see 5 others.

Thanks. Looks like they haven't posted a Discord invite yet though.

Hopefully there will be a dedicated feedback channel or something with votes, otherwise a handful of GOG requests will immediately be buried by general chatter.

I'll update this thread with their discord invite, once they publish it. We should never stop asking for more GOG releases!

Giving them money will never help them realize they need to bring games here. I hope you at least refunded the games after you left the reviews. You always sat they read the reviews, but that is generally smaller devs on newer games, not big publishers who are just counting the green, and they certainly don't care about reviews on older games. I mean it's better than nothing, but probably worse than emailing their marketing department directly, or their support department, or anyone else.

I will never purchase from Ubi again until Yves Guillemot is out of office and they properly address the abuse and sexual abuse, and subsequent cover-up by moving abusers around in the company, and giving one abusive exec the scapegoat golden parachute. They don't deserve your money or mine until they actually fix these problems instead of trying to sweep it under the rug.

Don't bother, I've already tried to explain this simple concept to him ages ago, but it's no use.
