Tale as old as time.

The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
More than 100 years later, evil is back, as it tends to do. Pick one of four available classes (yes, you don't have to be a bard) and before you know it you're be crawling through cavernous dungeons or the legendary city of Skara Brae, solving puzzles, bopping beasties in turn-based fashion and having a grand ol' time. Along with your party and your shiny gear, of course.

Fancy for some tasty extras?
The Premium edition comes loaded with an Art Book, Songbook, digital novellas, several in-game items, and more.
Platinum also includes the game's soundtrack and if you're new to the saga, the Ultimate Edition will provide you with a copy of the remastered Bard's Tales trilogy.

Looking for something different to scratch that RPG itch? The Torchlight and Tales of Maj'Eyal games are now on sale until September 22, 10pm UTC.

That's the patch roadmap of the Steam version . Where's the Gog one ?

Kakarot96: About the other "sneaky" deal, Tales of Maj'Eyal, someone knows something new about the problem with the last GOG patch (offline item vault not working, bonus class, etc)? It's a bug or it is made on purpouse? Because i had the game on my wishlist but if now it requires online activation...i will not be interested anymore.

Thank you!

Fortuk: That's still unclear. There haven't been any updates since then so we don't know whether or not this is a bug, an oversight or whether it's working as intended. In every build up until the current one those features worked perfectly fine, so I'm still hoping that it's a bug.
Well, it's not a simple bug, if it's what it is. Here on GOG it is a basic feature been able to play offline with all the sponsor extras. Oh, well, thank you very much for your answer, i will wait a bit more and see but sale ends up the 22th :S

I suspect that it is a copy&paste bug. GOG does not seem interested in fixing the problem although it would be trivial on their end and I don't want to bother the developer on IRC, again.
What everyone needs to realize is that 99 percent of what the modern gaming industry does is for one simple thing: to rip you off. The gaming industry is not your friend. The people who are in charge of publishing are not creatives, they are not interested in releasing anything at a fair price, and they sure as HELL don't give a damn about the actual quality of anything they release, with all but the most minimal of exceptions. The companies that have been releasing these CRPGs, I will say it again, DO NOT CARE about the end result of development, all they care about is how much money they can jimmy out of the pockets of the ignorant. So WAKE, UP. And if someone tells you something you don't want to hear then tough for you.

The reason the gaming industry is as abysmal as it is
is because of the blindly obedient, so get a clue. Quit being obedient to companies just because of the past, good friggin lord. The way the gaming industry worked in the past is gone, plain and simple.

Right behind it... (pun joke, don't take this seriously).

BTW, after Witcher 3 and Kingdom deliverance I never pre-order/back any game until it has real working linux version available (except games where I'm ready to back them just so, even without ability to play them, like Underworld Ascendant).

Developer has answered on the forum section (here on GOG) about the problem. Says it is a bug and was contacted by GOG about it, also. He says he has submited a new patch to fix this! :D

Pass the word! ;)

Kakarot96: After seeing reviews and some gameplays...not interested at all. Also, console design on top of a already questionable game design.

This is fixed in the latest patch released today.

It has been confirmed by the developer that this was a bug and he has now uploaded the fixed version to GOG. I've tried it out and everything seems to work the way it should again when playing off-line.

This is weird. Neither of your posts were visible when I posted and it took a while for my own to show up. Looks like the internet-tubes are clogged.

It was just this thread, i think, that was increasing the number of comments on the main store page but was stuck at page 4 here, so new comments did not appear.

Anyway, all solved with TOME! :)

Edit: and i already bought it, also

I know. He told me this morning that he would upload a new version today. ;-)

That is a common bug of the forum software. Sometimes new posts that start a new page are not visible for some time.

ValamirCleaver: Here's a copy of the e-mail I sent to CrowdOx & inXile :

I was given a GOG key for the Standard Edition when I should have received a key for the Ultimate Edition based on the crowd funding tier for which I paid.
Here's another copy.
This one is a statement from inXile, addressing that topic before the keys were sent out:

Accessing Your Backer Goods
Hi everyone, QA Lead Daniel Dean here just to wish all of you well and provide some information on how to access your digital goods. We have sent you emails from our backer site CrowdOx requesting you specify your choice of Steam or GOG.com key. Once specified, you will receive your key through email.

The game key you receive is for the Standard Edition of the game regardless of what tier you backed at. All your other extras will be available for download from CrowdOx, we have begun sending those emails and you should receive those some time today.

In terms of accessing your in-game items, the "Bardic Brian Skin" PDF comes with instructions on how to activate those items in your game.

Please use our forums and our support desk to let us know of any issues you find so that we can get working on them right away!

We hope you enjoy The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep!

Daniel Dean
QA Lead

Why are people so angry about this issue?

The message above was sent out before they even sent out the keys, but people act now as if it came out of a sudden and out of the blue.

Would it be nice to have the extras in my GOG account? Sure!

But what keeps people from just downloading the extras from CrowdOx?

Download is download...whether I do it on GOG or on CrowdOx - in the end it's the same file.

-----
-----
And since I read another user complaining about the "preservation factor" in regard to the unsecure longevity of CrowdOx:

If you want to have and keep your extras - download them now, and save them either:

a) on your hdd, and/or
b) on a CD ROM or DVD (or SD card, or USB stick, or whatever).
(they add up to about 593 MB)

After all - IF GOG or Steam ever go the way of the Dodo, you also won't have further access to your extras either.

Question: how do you guys handle your other purchases (here and elsewhere)?

I can tell you: I download my games, as soon as I have purchased them - and the same goes for the extras.

In case you don't do it this way...what do you think will happen IF GOG goes down some day?
(not that I seriously expect that to happen)

What is your plan for that day? Head on to any available online forum to cry about all your lost property?
That won't bring it back, you know?

My advise: better be safe (and download (and store) your stuff immediately), than to be sorry.

You've got to plan ahead, guys.

Skysect: WOHO WOW WOW WOW !

Quite nice . I got a ban from both Steam and InXile forums. Seems those guys are really pissed from truth.

My ban reason was wishing correct rewards for my tier.
Your complaint wasn't the reason you were banned, as your screenshots show. You were banned because you wrote that you hope Brian Fargo dies. Given that, it's hard to disagree with the action. I think that kind of post would (and should) get you banned from any halfway-decently moderated forum.

People may be absolutely justified in how unhappy they are about how inXile handled backer rewards, and are of course allowed to make their voices heard. But it's not an excuse to just drop basic manners, and turn so disproportionately aggressive. It's counter-productive, and the reason why more and more developers want to give up on direct community interaction altogether, which is disappointing for either side.
