This free game offer is a GOG-only initiative and is not affiliated with Trails to Azure.

Since 1989 the series has seen numerous entries and spin-offs over the years, with different sub-series and story arcs within its large franchise. The Legend of Heroes games are known for their intricate, character-driven stories, and turn-based combat systems. They feature a rich fantasy world with a complex political backdrop and deep lore most often revolving around a group of characters on a journey and the relationships between them.

One of the most popular sub-series within the Legend of Heroes franchise is the Trails series, which consists of three different story arcs: the Trails in the Sky series, the Crossbell duology, and the Trails of Cold Steel series. Each of these arcs takes place in the same fictional world of Zemuria and features interconnected storylines, characters, and events.

Trails from Zero and its direct sequel Trails to Azure are a part of the Crossbell arc. In Trails from Zero, the story takes place in the state of Crossbell, a prosperous region that has become a hotbed for political tension and corruption. The game follows the story of Lloyd Bannings, a member of the Crossbell Police Department's Special Support Section (SSS), and his team as they investigate a series of crimes and conspiracies throughout the city.

The game features the same turn-based battle system and world-building as other games in the Legend of Heroes series, but also introduces new gameplay elements such as the ability to swap party members during combat and a new crafting system. It also expands on the world and lore established in the Trails in the Sky series, and sets the stage for the events of Trails to Azure.

In Trails to Azure, the story continues from where Trails from Zero left off and follows Lloyd Bannings and the Special Support Section (SSS) as they continue their investigations into the political and social issues plaguing the state of Crossbell. The story delves deeper into the conspiracies and conflicts surrounding the state's power players, including the influential organization called the "Gospel Plan."

Like other games in the Legend of Heroes series, Trails to Azure features a turn-based battle system and focuses heavily on character development and world-building. The game also introduces new gameplay mechanics, such as the "Crossbell Archives" system which allows players to collect and read various reports and documents that provide additional insight into the game's story and world.

Trails to Azure was originally released in 2011 but not outside of Japan. It is highly regarded among fans of the Legend of Heroes series for its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and intricate world-building and has also received praise for its improvements and refinements to the gameplay mechanics introduced in Trails from Zero, as well as its attention to detail in presenting the various facets of Crossbell's society and politics.

We’re incredibly excited that the wait for the release is over and we can experience this gem of an RPG in its full glory. We would also like to invite you to join us during our release stream for Trails to Azure, today (March 14th), at 8 PM UTC on our Twitch Channel where Kaoji will jump right in to Special Support Section’s adventures!

Grab The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure – Launch Week Bundle with our GIFT, check out the Legends of Heroes Sale and embark on an incredible RPG adventure!
Such a stupid release model.

Gods forbid someone have *anything* else going on in their lives other than waiting for your game to drop. Death in the family, COVID/flu, unexpected expense, vacation, whatever - tough luck for them.

I'm not a fan of preorder exclusives in general (unless sold later as DLC), but at least the old way wasn't this "one week only" nonsense. So much nicer to be able to preorder well in advance.
I don't recommend the Azure game. I played it when it was free to play with Amazon. It stretches things out considerably by unskipable scenes and other shit.

Like every new area you go to there is a relatively long bit where it pans around the area and then title screens the name of the area. And there are alot of new areas, especially at first. Like the main town is divided into many areas each with itts own unskipable panning sequence.

At one point I choose a different dialogue option out of curiosity and had to go through a long bit where I had to redo alot of battles and stuff. Because aside from these dialogues being unskipable, you can't save during them, nor can you save during battles. The game can sometimes go from unskipable dialogue streight to battles where you can't surrender or exit to menu to go back to a earlier save if you mess up to another long set of unskipable dialogue.

Nor could I find any way to increase the battle animation which can also be infuriatingly time consuming. The combo attacks go from interesting to annoying when it means dealing with all the combo attack animation each time. Or waiting for a character to slowly move over for a attack.

If you do have or get the game, I strongly recommend reading spoiler for recipes and for the cat. Unless you're willing to retalk to every single NPC every single stage of the game, there is likely stuff you're going to miss, unless you read spoilers.

Underneath all that shit is a good game, though still some problems. It would be alot better if stuff could be speed up, skipped, saves makable and loadable at any point, all of which would vastly improve this game.

Isn't talking to every single NPC at every single stage of the game the whole point of the Trails games? ^^

I'm not even joking, talking to those people and getting to know them is one of my pleasures of those games. The Trails series turn me into a gossip.

The big advantage is that when some random bystander gets into trouble, it's not "Guard #7" that has to be rescued or get killed, but somebody I actually know. I feel that showing the normalcy of those places and of the people who inhabit them gives more impact to the big story beats where that normalcy is actually shattered.

(And yet, I still miss things sometimes. ^^ But missing one sidequest or two is usually not a big deal overall)

I LOVE those games. I'm a huge fan of Sky 1-2-3 and of Zero, so I can't wait to get into Azure.

They often don't say anything interesting, especially latter on. Like you talk to the icecream seller one stage and you get the thrilling dialogue of asking if you want to buy icecream (maybe a tiny bit more, but not much) Latter at a very specific part of the game you'll get that recipe for making icecream or something like that. But the only extra text is something about a limited time offer for free recipe.

And if reading again the text asking if you want to buy icecream for the 10th time is thrilling to you, good for you. But that should be optional.

This Azure game is big on forcing you to waste your time whether you like it or not doing the same thing over and over and over.

AnimalMother117: Hey, quick question for anyone who knows:

How am I supposed to pronounce NIS America? I always figured like en-eye-ess but I have heard people in videos and in person say it like "niece." I figured it was like NHK (en-aitch-kay) but when I have tried to look I cannot see anything like Xebec had for their logo to tell you. Anyone know?
You are correct with "en-eye-ess" as it is an acronym for Nippon Ichi Software.

Fun fact: They also have a semi official mascot who first appeared in Hyperdimension Neptunia (2010) but also in a couple of NIS's own games such as Disgaea 5.

Even more fun fact: She has her own theme song :)

Thank you very much, much appreciated.

Also, love mascots and the song's cool.
Another issue with Azure is it makes it near impossible to check the results of different dialogue choices unless you want to redo sometimes multiple battles and long dialogues you just read.

Don't talk about talking to NPC, I like to do that too. The way Azure does things is unforgivable IMO, just makes the game take too long for no benefit.

And again part of it is the long time it takes for each battle action and the long unskippable combo attack animation as well
^ This.

Come on gog, get your act together already.....
Probably best way is to contact durante.I think he is the one responsible for updates. Also checked now we are missing a recent update for trails from zero that was released when Azure launched.

alexandros050: I hope that the reviews don't get deleted after the launch week special like what happened with trails from zero.....
And there they go :(. It is also rather obnoxious for GOG to make a news post encouraging people to subscribe to games they are interested to avoid missing them at the exact time people who had done that were missing launch exclusives due to the broken system. I hoped that they might manually fix that this time, but again no notification until after the launch exclusives are over.

I thought wishlist notifications worked somehow but checking again it turns out that it was just Zero being on sale which didn't get removed from my wishlist after purchasing the launch special even though it is marked as owned. It looks like Azure did get removed from my wishlist.

Good news. But unfortunately ys viii him still not passed. The latest patch released on Steam last year is still missing. But not available on gog.

Is there also a way to communicate with the studio behind the share? This is for patching cold steel for 16:10 resolutions. The sky series and zero, azure are compatible but not the cold steel series.

I don't think Durante is responsible for Ys so you have to contact NISA.. The only way I found to contact them is through here.
https://store.nisamerica.com/contact-us

They also have discord and twitter but I don't really use those platforms.

Also about the cold steel series I think he is done updating them unless something really important comes up. Also probably his contract with Xseed might have expired (Cold steel 1 and 2)
