Ancient-Red-Dragon: I have no problem accepting free games from EGS.
Me neither.

The problem is downloading them.
I have hundreds of games there, but have never downloaded any, because I don't want to install their client.

It's a nice hypothetical backlog though.
At least most of those games should be relatively easy to tweak DRM-free, if I understood it correctly.

scientiae: I was asking for the source of the quotation in the fifth reply (by @Breja) "As if a switch had been turned, as if an eye had been blinked, as if some phantom force in the universe had made a move eons beyond our comprehension, suddenly, there was […]",

Breja: I was paraphrasing closing narration from an infamous B-movie Monster a Go-Go.
[…] Case in point: The line between science fiction and science fact is microscopically thin! You have witnessed the line being shaved even thinner! But is the menace with us? Or is the monster gone?
Mr Alex Trebek, the question would be: "What would the epilogue, adapted from the closing narration of the classic B-movie Monster a Go-Go."

:)

On topic: I don't buy DRM assets lest their enjoyment be taken by some third party, whether the IP owner or other.
The last Blizzard game I bought was the noughties Warcraft III, I think it was. I might still have the original disc/s somewhere but I haven't purchased it on Gog because I stopped playing when the prince [spoiler redacted for those who haven't seen it and also to prevent any error on my part being revealed oops what is this automatic writing without delete what the hey stop typing…]

Zimerius: I am so confused, atm. What does any of this have to do with the glory song for epic games store i introduced? Please try and stay on topic if there is any more need for a continuation on your guy's behalf! (not recommended!!!!!)

Breja: I am so very sorry I answered someone's question and totally derailed your week old, entirely dead thread.

Please, go back to singing "glory songs" for DRMed platforms and online games.
and that is whole clue now ain't it....

i really don't know what to think about people who classify mmorpg's as being a threat to personal gaming rights

You can use unofficial one, like open-source Heroic Launcher.

I really don't know what to think about people who are surprised an always online game they bought is "suddenly like worth nothing anymore" and proceed to feel "undefined anger against developers and their disregard for people who pay with hard earned pennies" over the disappearance of a product you never in any way owned and was always obviously entirely reliant on a service provider and was obviously going to one day be terminated.

If you spent money on a game that specifically requires you to connect to a specific server that is owned by either the developer or publisher in order to play the game, you own absolutely nothing. People need to stop acting surprised and angry when the servers for their favorite DRMed game are shut down, denying them the ability to play.

Do a search for "games that are being shut down in 2024" and you will find that this includes:
* several Assassin's Creed games
* Heroes of Might and Magic 6
* Splinter Cell: Conviction
* Dragon Quest Tact
* The Day Before (which will be the game that was active for only 45 days)
* Armored Core: Verdict Day
* Dark Souls 2
* All Wii U and 3DS games
* the XBox 360 store is shutting down in that you won't be able to make new purchases
* GWENT isn't shutting down, but it's not receiving any new content, which suggests it doesn't have much of a future

That just the stuff with titles I recognized without going past the first page on search results.

It's been made official last year that at the end of 2023 active support will end and the game will live on "at a maintenance level". For how long before it shuts down entirely - who knows.

I dont know much about Destiny or Destiny 2 tbh but I do wish corporations quit it with the live service games and at least make single-player/offline versions of the game they play so people can still "play" the game and its content despite a heavy nerf from lack of other players (so content can be completed single player but its just easier with more people).

Although the recent leak or information release by Rockstar apparently showed that the company was planning on 6 story DLCs for GTA 5 which were scrapped because of the success of GTA Online (and I wouldnt be surprised if RDR2 story DLC like the rumored aliens DLC or undead DLC was also scrapped because of GTA online). Live action not only hurts the game's longevity but also its single player experience if it has one.

Look fred, if you are just here to play the rambam you're completely welcome!

Zimerius: And now they give the game with the latest DLC for free on Epic Games.... That's a nice thing to look at i think....
Last i know a year or two ago, Destiny 2 went Pay to win... i mean, Free-to-play (which is ALWAYS a good sign... /sarcasm). So the DLC is just to entice you to return; i doubt Epic had to pony any money up.

Honestly from the broken non-nonsensical story to them justifying emotes and pushing out effectively garbage... Saddening where they went after they let go of Halo.

It does seem that most commercial applications are aimed at a less matured crowd.

This takes me back to my Facebook gaming days. There were plenty of great ones in the early 2010s, my favorite was Marvel Avengers Alliance since it turned me being bored one random evening to the Marvel fan I am today. Surprisingly, its not a multiplayer-heavy game, majority of it was its own singleplayer storyline. If I remember correctly, the only MP elements are the usual PvP mode, and they can send supplies or assist in battle. Totally unnecessary tbh, except for maybe the special events that require you to own a lot of... basically some kind of currency that gets spent every time you battle.

And then one day it shut down. Everyone's collection of heroes and items, gone. Lucky I didn't know how to make online payments back then, otherwise I probably would've burned money. If we wanna "singleplayer-ify" the game we could just remove PvP and assist/requests, and turn the limited event missions to normal ones. Alas, that was not the case. Sorry for the long rant, just wanna tell my sad story about a game that's gone forever which I loved and I can proudly say, changed my life.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: I have no problem accepting free games from EGS.

But Destiny 2 will not be one of them, since I have always understood, for years, ever since Destiny 2 first came out, that the entire "business strategy" of that game is to milk consumers continually.

To that I say, no thanks. They can keep their "free" game, since that kind of game isn't really "free" anyway, IMO, at least not if you want to have a good time and keep your character current after they release future Destiny 2 milking scams, as they always & inevitably & incessantly will do.
Exactly myv take on Destiny bs, my time isnt free, so i carefuly pick games i want spent my time on

Epic is just weird, on one hand they do big giveaways on other they are just worse steam or Gog, no game reviews, no uncensored game discusion forums ...
