Pheace: And yet there are many that do work this way, case in point the DRM-Free games on Steam thread in this forum highlighting which games those are.

The fact that they aren't clearly marked does not in any way invalidate that those games do exist and that for those games the situation is exactly the same as GOG.
avatar
Desmight: The situation is the same only if you don't preserve the game installers. In that case, yeah: being banned on Steam or GOG is the same. I mean, it's obvious: if you use GOG as if It was "another Steam", without getting advantage of the DRM-free bonuses, you'll end up having the same issues of Steam. The difference is that GOG gives you the ability to avoid those issues.
I wasn't talking about the games you keep on the service part of it, I'm talking about the games on Steam you can download and then never need Steam again.

StingingVelvet: Yeah I expected to say I never support permanent bans, but man... he really sold me on deserving it. Used an exploit to get out of a temporary community ban so he could transfer items to another account, got caught and temporarily banned for longer, then harassed the company with "hundreds" of emails and messages? I'd ban him too.
Guys. I had an ability to transfer any item (or giftable copy of the game) when temporarly Community ban was reversed by "self-locked" tool. But I did nothing with all these stuff. I bought 100+ new games while I was temporarly banned also. (Community ban do not disallowed "purchasing feature").

I thought that all Valve Employees (Steam admins) are adequate and polite. Well, it kills me to say it, but I was wrong.

Some of them are good people. For example one Valve Employee helped me to change ownership of my group (I lost access to its moderation because of Community Ban).

Steam Support has declined my beg. They told me that this action can not be perfomed technically.

Wow, to think I almost skipped over this thread! Pure gold. My son has been a console gamer all his life but just got a gaming PC this week and created a Steam account. I'm definitely going to put him onto this thread. Me, I won't do Steam and never will.

Quick question: numerous posts have touched upon how a similar account ban on GOG would play out. Does anyone know if this has actually happened in the past?

This is the dumbest question I'll ask all week, but why would you buy ANYthing from them - let alone 100 more games - while facing a temporary ban you felt was unjustified.

Giving them more money during that time, repeatedly... I can't wrap my head around it.

1. I had 90% coupon (discount) for the each game.
2. I had huge Steam Wallet balance on my account
3. It was Summer Sale 2017 and all these games were for me like for "free".
4. Community Ban was temporarily and it would be automatically lifted sooner or later. For that time I had no reasons for crying.

In the meantime, now that Steam had burned you hard. Do you intend to stick around to buy games from GOG?

KabyLake: Some of them are good people.
*Some*. Very few, actually.

I got permabanned on steam forums for answering (just once) with ascii art. Im kinda okay with that, since even if I was drunk Im responsible for my acts. The deal is - in ban's reasons, moderator wrote some rude stuff. I tried to discuss that thing with their support, since thats not something, employer of such company should do (moreover such stuff is prohibited in their rules. Or, atleast, could be, if not "moderator is always right" point) on their work.
Guess what? After half year of silence, they answered that everything was correct.

You cant put "volvo" and "good people" together - thats oxymoron

Please clarify. What was correct, the moderator's actions or your complaint?

What ASCII art you've used? It can be something generic like a girl or something that can violate their rules like "penis".
Additionally, most of Steam Community moderators are volunteers (contractors are an exception). Valve do not pay them anything.

If I may have your attention for a moment, may I inquire on why you were testing the self-locking tool?

Three times. First one on 12 January of 2017. My friend wrote to me that he was unable to unlock his own Steam Account that was locked by him even with correct code wich was provided by that tool. It was a problem of the Steam Web designers, because code must be typed only with CAPS LOCK or SHIFT button. By default "self-locking" tool had crappy design with CSS attribution (text-transform: UPPERCASE). All my friends (including me) were unable to unlock Steam account because of this bug. And I wrote email to the russian Valve Employee (infortunatelly he is no longer with Valve). Any member of Steam Support can check that all my words are truth.

nothing that violate their rules, thats the deal. Iirc it was doge face, lol. I know that LOTS of people spam similar ascii everywere (and it annoys me too). But it was stupid thread, I was in a state when I consider almost everything as fun thing.
Im fine with permaban, I think - I didnt use their global forums that much anyway. And I can somehow understand moderators for banning people for everything, that barelly affect their inner triggers - if your work is related to community with LOTS of brainless dudes, you become a bit agressive. I mean - I've used to be a moderator in past, I know how it feels.
What I cant understand is why people, who suppouse to guide community, violate and abuse their own rules. It feels so childish and weird - at this point, they arent better than people, they try to moderate

I once got a one week ban for cursing someone out, but he was approaching the territory of sexual harrassment with me. My Rarity avatar brings out all sorts over there. Occasionally I'm somehow not allowed to form a valid opinion on anything because of it.
