KneeTheCap: All the mentioned games are older classics. I don't think I have seen one newer game that is intentionally offered as a free game in here. I don't think GOG likes the idea to offer their serverspace for free. Thanks for the encouraging words, though! They mean a lot.
Not true. Cayne is rather new i.e.
Like it has been said: asking them should not be a problem at all. Now you are saying "no" because you think they will. What's the worse that could happen? They say "no" - nothing more. It would be a totally different thing if it would cost money or much time but if it should not - just ask them.

Okay then, let's see how it goes :)

Good luck :) And hey, if they do say "no" it's simply their loss. At least you have tried it.
Good luck, KneeTheCap ( :
As expected, GOG is not interested in free-to-play -games. Which is totally understandable. So Traum will not be appearing in GOG.

Don't really know if it had any chance to be in here if it was paid, either.

Any case, thank you all for your support! Traum is available on itchio right now and on steam next monday.

Cheers!

That's bad but I said it already " And hey, if they do say "no" it's simply their loss. At least you have tried it."

@GOG staff: Disappointed about your decision.
Really sad to hear that, KneeTheCap. ( :

I just don't understand their reasoning, since they already have free games on the site, which I linked to in the last page.

Did you tell them the game was 'free', or 'free to play'? Cos that's 2 different things.
'Free' (otherwise knows as freeware) really is a free game, like Traum. But 'free to play' only lets you play for a short time, before you either have to wait hours and hours before you can play again, or pay more money to be able to play again. I think that's called micro-transactions.

I think free and free to play are the same thing for them. The submission form asked about the price, we put in free. Sure, we didn't really specify that the game truly is free and without any hoops, but I don't think it would have really mattered.

Servers cost money and if the game is free, it wouldn't bring in anything to justify that cost. Maybe if the game manages to catch some wind GOG will reconsider :D

The logic is understandable but why do GOG still have free games available here like "Flight of the Amazon Queen" and "Beneath a Steel Sky"?

They probably don't want to set a precedent where they start hosting free games, because that borders on file hosting, which is a lot less "legitimate" in some gamers' eyes, than say "selling games". The free ones they do host are very small in file size, generally.

But Traum also is only 256MB.

It's alright, they made their decision :)

Of course and I don't want to fight them. I just mentioned that this game is quite small because CymTyr posted that they might keep those other free games also because of them not taking much space. They rejected, we get this - the question is "why" since they also have other free games in the store.

They didn't specify the reason other than that they don't plan to have free-to-play -titles on their store. I do not know if they really did think Traum would have microtransactions.

If you explicitely named the game as "free to play" they probably thought so. Like it has been said before - GOG already HAS games that can be played for free (to avoid the FTP term here) on their store - several. That is why it's hard to believe their explanation.
