Navagon: There really has been a shortage, no, an absence of good mech games for far too long. I think that the main reason for this is that everyone who owns anything almost remotely mech related automatically sues everyone else who tries to release something even vaguely to do with mechs. It's a mutually self-defeating masochistic circle jerk.
I don't think that it was ever a matter of there being a lack of interest in big, stompy mechs blowing seven shades of shit out of each other.
So yes, it's great that finally we're getting a couple of games that seem like they won't be in the firing line of these endless lawsuits. I suppose the mech legal landscape is so pocked with craters that it's now much easier to see a clear path through it.
I remember reading about the legal issues MW:Online had yes. I wonder if that is also why we haven't seen Battletech explored in film in television. A big budget well made Battletech film would be awesome! Pacific Rim was too over the top, too massive, and too silly for me to take seriously. I'd much rather see a gritty and serious battletech film that takes inspiration from the tons of awesome artwork out there. There are tons of anime with mechs, including some incredibly series like Blue Gender, but I'd much rather see one featuring the, compared to anime mecha for the most part, slow and lumbering behemoths of the Battletech universe. I don't think that it was ever a matter of there being a lack of interest in big, stompy mechs blowing seven shades of shit out of each other.

huan: - from what I gathered developers broke their promises about release date at least two times, so lots of people are pissed at them. I found about it relatively recently and haven't invested any money in their kickstarter, so I'm still cautiously optimistic, and it looks like they may finally be near release. It could be decent distraction until [url=http://www.terrariaotherworld.com/]Terraria: Otherworld comes out.
Oh yes, I was incredibly excited for Starbound early in its development, but then it seemed like nothing happened for a long while. I'm now just biding my time waiting for it to come out of early access, while playing Terraria in the meantime. Secretly I'm also far more excited for Terraria: Otherworld :PPost edited January 26, 2016 by Matewis
