Could there be anything more eye rolling than a trailer sans gameplay?
Big fan of the original X-COM games, still replay the original in recent years.
The new Xcom is decent enough, don't like it as much as the originals. Not holding much hope for Xcom2 after watching Angry Joe's mission playthrough.
I really enjoyed last XCOM even more then original and i somewhat feel that i will enjoy this one too :)
Thanks but no thanks, even if it gets released here I will keep playing OpenXcom as that retains the emergent gameplay of the original X-COM while offering optional improvements and mods.
Just watched the trailer; it seemed OK to me (I don't mind the narrator at all) and from what I've seen it looks like another version of XCOM EU with some new stuff inside. I don't think it will be much different than EU so whoever liked that, I suppose will like this too.

As for me, while I played EU (one of the reasons I've made a Steam account back then as I've been itching to try it and see if it compares to the original XCOMs) and enjoyed it, I don't see buying that too as I'm finished with Steam. If it comes here in the future though, I'll probably get it.
OK, I tried Xenonauts and everything seemed OK and faithful until I did the first recon mission on a crash site:
WTF is wrong with the game balancing? I put the game on easy because I don't have much time to play but I haven't seen such a bad RNG for the accuracy of shots.... You know it's fucked up when a "sniper" can't get a shot while crouching with max AP for more precison with an alien just 3 "blocks" away....

The game can be easily modified with the xml files but I don't want to waste my free time for stuff like this if the devs can't make a proper easy mode.... Uninstalled, now I'm making a definitive cross on everything affiliated with XCOM, I'll just keep my sweet memories.... :(

BTW, Breach&Clear is a lot of fun for people who likes short game sessions...

Roleplay it ;) sniper was terrified and pissing his pants, hence missing that much.

That or tech in the 70s was just that much worse :)
I played the original x-com to death, and still play it. Played Xcom:eu loved it as well (except the scripted missions) it has much more a role playing vibe than a tactical combat simulator like the original. Xenonauts is fun, but I would rather just play the original, and Xcom:eu draws me more into my characters.

As for trailors, don't pay them much attention, gameplay trailers I might watch if I am on the fence, but I like things to be fresh when I play through the first time.

As for the voice over its the same voice that was used in Xcom-eu for the council leader, if anything I think they are trying to maintain continuity.

That did happen in original X-Com with rookies, too. Quite a bit even. Losing soldiers was part of what added to the whole X-Com package.

Yeah, I remember that but it wasn't as almost CONSTANTLY inaccurate...

By blocks, you mean squares? If yes, use your sidearm, not the sniper rifle. A sniper rifle is useful for medium to long distances, and completely useless for point blank range. Similar to trying to shoot an enemy at the other end of the map with a shotgun.

I don't know. I actually find Xenonauts - on that end - far far easier than the original xcom. You can at least can get in cover and safety with Xenonauts. There's even the option of pretty decent mobile cover placement if you equip some of your squad with shields & pistol combo. It actually makes snipers way powerful. Use half the team in a sniper role to kill the far of opponents while sitting behind your shield carriers, pop anything that comes too close with the other half of the team carrying a pistol and a shield. It's so easy a strategy that it somewhat ruins it for me.

Well, I've seen soldiers with assault rifles stand on the square right in front of an alien, so close that the barrel of the weapon clips into the aliens head, and what do they do? Aim up at the ceiling and miss :P It gets better pretty quickly though, when the soldiers rank up, and you get better weapons, and when that happens, it's a glorious game. XCOM: EU was definitely my game of the year for 2012.

Edit: I just realised you were talking about Xenonauts, not XCOM. My bad. Still, much of the accuracy-flaws still happens in it. Xenonauts is still excellent, however :D
