Considering they are targeting a mainstream audience and not just gamers who specialize in tactical and strategic games, I think the commercial is appropriate. XCom 2012 was certainly very popular and appealed to many types of gamers. I don't expect the gameplay to be any different either from the previous game, so why not focus on the storyline in the trailer ?!

What annoyed me about the whole XCom 2012 hype was that media exclaimed it 'the return of a dead genre', that was my impression at least. There were plenty of isometric turn-based games around prior to XCom 2012, much of gaming media simply didn't bother to cover it that much, if at all.

Personally I get my XCom kick from Xenonauts, so I'm more excited for Xenonauts 2 than I am for XCom 2.
Not that I didn't enjoy XCom 2012, but I prefer the gameplay of Xenonauts and the UFO games.

Hm, I just saw they have the XCom Complete Pack DRM-free on Humble Bundle. I never realized you could actually get them DRM-free, but I feel like waiting for a GOG appearance.

As I'm old enough to have played a lot the original XCOM when it was released and I have much fond memories of it ...
Wow, this just looks like as most far away from the original spirit as it can be. I looks like a Star Wars parody... I wouldn't want to play it and they probably successfully ruined the franchise.

Time to play a real successor.
Are you this man? If so you're probably too old for this (shit)

catpower1980: As I've got ads on youtube on my tablet, it has at least the merit to keep informed of what's going in the entertainement industry (yeah, there's this thing called Star Wars coming soon, I know....) but unexpectedly, I got to see the XCOM2 trailerthis morning and instead of skipping it, I let it play because it felt so much like an AAA parody that I was constantly rolling eyes at 200% full cliché it was. Here it is for those we missed it:

As I'm old enough to have played a lot the original XCOM when it was released and I have much fond memories of it, I just feel like this trailer raped my youth and buried it under a pile of crap, I don't even care anymore if the game is good or not but with such marketing communication, I'm pretty sure I will never buy it.... Time to finally play this Xenonauts game which has been gathering dust in my library....
Xenonauts it's everything that you wished XCOM to be. Just don't forget to read the manual. It explains quite well the game's mechanics. Expect to be trashed until you will learn the gameplay well. And a single playthrough it will be exhausting (but it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside once you finish your first game:)

XCOM was fun, but nowhere near the old games.
Since the reboot already pushed the cheeky "ze aliens" way too far I can't say that I'm surprised.
I don't expect much from Xcom 2, more of a lightweight parody of the original where you have to fight braindead enemies streamlined to play on mobile devices.
I honestly do not have the energy to really care or say anything about this game other than "OK, this exists". Even the original X-Com wasn't that great, but these reboot thingys... meh
i enjoyed the 2012 reboot, and I'm kinda interested in what they're doing with the story, so ill probably pick it up.
In this article are two videos embedded which together show almost 2h of gameplay.
Who cares about trailers? I don't, I just hope It will be a great game.
I took a peek at that trailer and yah, i agree its screams parody, lol, perhaps (i hope) that was intentional.

already know I wont play the game, its very intense and I dont do well with strategy games, I will instead wait for geordyjones to twitch stream a mega run of it like he is doing with the old xcom long war, that way I get to enjoy the game (which is awesome) without the aggravation of trying to play it. Not sure how all the whiz bang new animations and effects will play out, it may lose the charm of the older game.
Still play the originals, if the modern games come here i'd drop the money on them.
Trailer is horrid, tells you sweet fa.

It's XCOM Jim, but not as we know it.

Niggles: What do you think of movie trailers in general?. ie Star Wars Force Awakens, Civil War etc?
Funny you should ask, I find them hilarious.

Normally, I don't care, because I don't care about movies in general. But recently, I've been following some of this stuff and I've laughed a lot at people analyzing these trailers. "Meh, they don't talk, we still know nothing". "Same voiceover as always". "It's giving away too much". Make up your minds already!
I like turn based strategy games and the X-COM serie and i dont care about trailers. If the game will be good then i will probably play it.

Emob78: So... another short trailer for a video game that shows absolutely no actual video game footage. What's new.
To be fair, they do seem to have a lot of gameplay video's out there at least.

I'm seriously hyped for the game but I'm doing my best to avoid any coverage on it, I prefer to be surprised :3
