Considering they are targeting a mainstream audience and not just gamers who specialize in tactical and strategic games, I think the commercial is appropriate. XCom 2012 was certainly very popular and appealed to many types of gamers. I don't expect the gameplay to be any different either from the previous game, so why not focus on the storyline in the trailer ?!
What annoyed me about the whole XCom 2012 hype was that media exclaimed it 'the return of a dead genre', that was my impression at least. There were plenty of isometric turn-based games around prior to XCom 2012, much of gaming media simply didn't bother to cover it that much, if at all.
Personally I get my XCom kick from Xenonauts, so I'm more excited for Xenonauts 2 than I am for XCom 2.
Not that I didn't enjoy XCom 2012, but I prefer the gameplay of Xenonauts and the UFO games.
Hm, I just saw they have the XCom Complete Pack DRM-free on Humble Bundle. I never realized you could actually get them DRM-free, but I feel like waiting for a GOG appearance.
